Anyone ever swapped their manual AC controls to electronic? Stumbled upon an ad for a JBL radio but he's including the controls. I don't need the radio....

Did you ever do the swap? I have been been wanting to do the same.

AFAIK, the Dual Zone is vastly different from the single. There are different components behind the dash to allow for the dual zone operation. This isn't a "swap". You'd need to take the dash down and install all the other parts to make it work.

Not interchangeable what so ever. You’re basically trying to change an analog system to digital by just plug and play. That won’t work. All of the internals behind the dash are different, like blend doors, wire harnesses, as well as the programming necessary for it to function. Can it be done? It’s been attempted but some functions still didn’t work and it’s not cheap or simple to do. You would need to take apart the entire dash.

I suppose the Phoenix/Tesla style radios that digitize the controls merely change the interface while detecting which AC capabilities are OEM (manual or auto).

Correct. The control for the Manual system is still electronic. But in terms of functionality, those radios can’t provide any more capability then the system has stock. The oem climate control system is just that. A climate control system with temp sensors, dual zone functionality, etc. The Tesla radio can’t reproduce any of that because the hardware isn’t behind the dash.

I just bought a used dual AC off of Marketplace and tried to plug and play to replace my analog single zone and unfortunately nothing works on it. Was hoping to get all other functionality besides dual zone but no luck. Only the hazards worked lol

As mentioned. The two systems are not interchangeable what so ever.
