    Not sure if the gen3's are the same, but gen2/2.5 SR models didn't come with a brake controller.

    Engine change is just a tune but that minor difference shouldn't affect towing too much. Biggest difference is if you get CrewMax in SR5, it will likely have less payload capacity due to CrewMax and more amenities.
