I put in 8 quarts. Start, idle 2 min. Shuts off. Wait couple mins, check dipstick. Add more if needed. I usually dont need to add more.
8qts puts it lightly above the middle mark on the dipstick. Im perfectly fine with that. Not full and not low either.. never had isue doing it this way for years now.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
I aim for between the dipstick high and low dots and call it a day. Between 7 and 8 quarts.

That would be a quart minus 6.4 tablespoons... :D

......or, put another way, 6 tablespoons minus 1.2 teaspoons.

What particular brand of lubricant are we measuring?

Most quarts of oil anymore have markings on the side that show the number of ounces in the bottle. 1 quart = 32 ounces X .9 = 28.8 ounces for .9 of a quart. Divide this by the seasonal gravitational pull and factor in the day of the week you are changing the oil.

7.9 to 8.0 is just rounding.

    For me: 5.7L 3UR engine.

I put in 8.4 quarts of Costco Kirkland brand 5W-30 from their 5 gallon jugs. I dump into the engine a full/new 5 quart jug. I have a 2nd jug with a piece of tape at 3.4 quarts. I fill it up to the mark. Then dump it into in the engine. Away I go.

I would think viscosity would be more important than brand :notsure:

So many different answers. I think OP is more confused now then before asking

Best answer OP is to check your years owners manual. My '18 says it's 8.5qt with the filter change and 7.9qt without the filter change.

    Google says:
    2017(your year)
    Screenshot_20250804_093637_Google.jpg

    2018(my year)
    Screenshot_20250804_093659_Google.jpg

So best answer, check your manual.

I’ve always put in 8 and it’s never gone over the top dot on the dipstick. Usually about half way between the two…

Yea checking my manual led me to post the question, I was wondering if people were measuring out .9 of a quart or dumping in 8 and calling it good. Thanks for all the replies guys

Yes and no, you can have a really cheap branded oil that’s the right viscosity but no additives for wear etc

Honestly, this conversation is always a black hole as it seems there were many variations and factors in the 5.7 and what was attached to it from 2007-2021. Best advice is I've seen is to start with 7qts and then just watch the dipstick as you put more in

My 2021's manual calls for 8.5 quarts. I have found this brings it right to the full line. So I started using 8 qts. It's perfectly in the middle on the dipstick. So now I just toss in 8, double check, and roll

I've always dumped in 8qts. Never had a problem. If there's too much it'll burn off. :D
