Rear brake drum help

    Good morning everyone I'm new to this forum, I have a 2006 tundra double cab SR5 and I was deciding to do my rear brakes but when I took off the tire this is what I found. I have never seen a drum like this can somebody tell me what those extra bolts/nuts are for?

    My advice is to get rid of it :rofl:

    Especially if you don't own a torque wrench, or you ever have tire shops manage removal/install of your wheels. Because over-torquing the lugs or the spacer bolts will result in cracking the spacer, which can lead to nasty stuff.

    It's a spacer. At least it looks like it's the correct hub centric. I agree with @shifty` about getting rid of it. The only problem is you might get into a tire rub situation because someone used them to correct for the wrong offset on the wheels. Are they on the front as well?

    Only reason I didn't mention that is because it's on the rear, which naturally sits about 1" closer to the flare, and has more leniency on backspacing.

    Thank you everyone for your response I thought they were spacers but I've never seen wheel spacers inside the drum I've only seen them on the outside. So my question is this; do I need remove the nuts to get to the pads and if so will it be hard to put it back together? I know that sounds like a stupid question but I figured I might as well ask anyways. BTW this is the rear wheels.

    You gotta remove the nuts to get the spacer off, so that the drum can come off.

    You'll remove those inset nuts. Tap the spacer on the side, it should pop off. Then use the two threaded holes in the drum, probably hidden by the spacer right now, and run bolts into them until they snug up, then turn each a full turn, alternating between bolts, and it'll help pop the drum off.

    Spacers are a controversial subject. Make sure when you reinstall you use the proper torque spec for the spacers you have and you should probably use some blue loc-tite as well.
