I know what I'm about to post isn't unique. Besides my intro this is my first post so here goes. I have a 2007 5.7L 2WD with an AFE pro dry S cold air intake and Corsa touring catback exhaust. I would like to get a bit more torque out of it but nothing crazy. The truck is very reliable and I want to keep it that way. That said I would appreciate any ideas. I've been surfing the forum and a tune seems to come up a lot but I don't know if there are other options that fit what I'm looking for.

Not much bolt on aftermarket performance parts for these motors. Either tune or boost. Or both. Only feasible power adders for these motors.

But why do you feel you need more torque? If you feel the truck is under powered, then you’re probably going something the truck isn’t rated for.

With all due respect assuming I'm doing something the truck isn't rated for is an incorrect assumption. I simply want a bit more seat-o meter power and I feel with the right tweak it would be easily accomplished without compromising drivability. That's why I'm looking more into a mild tune

Overland Tailor Tuning is the immediate answer. Look on their website for a local tuner in their network. Or @JustDSM can point you in the right direction if needed.

If you are looking for a noticeable increase in torque, this pairs well with an updated OTT tune:

OTT tune, regear, blower. In order of cost, and of impact.

Getting rid of the corsa exhaust will help. It’s been proven that most general cat back systems reduce the mid rpm torque in these trucks. In an otherwise stock N/A truck, you’ll get more seat of the pants power from the stock exhaust. Or going with an exhaust designed just for these motors and their unique power band, like one from Dirty Deeds. There’s plenty of power on hands in these trucks. It’s quite possible the truck just needs a solid tune up, being it’s an 18 year old truck. There isn’t much tweaking you can get out of these motors that will give you any real seat of the pants power increase, aside from going with a supercharger. Like mentioned, there is no real bolt on aftermarket power increasing parts for these trucks.

OTT tune and a Dirty Deeds muffler gave me a noticeable difference. SABM will prob be next, just because

Wow guys on this site are awesome! I really appreciate your help! My last tune up was AT 60K and I'm currently at 120K miles. The last tune I cleaned the MAF and installed Denso iridium Long life plugs. Not much else I know of to do from a tune up aspect. The overland tune has my attention. I'm in La Porte Texas (near Houston) so I'm thinking of doing a tune up then seeking a local Overland tuner so long as the tuner maintains the daily drivability I have now. BTW Blenton that's an impressive engine bay you got there!

Hahah. No. My engine bay isn’t nearly that clean. I don’t think it has EVER been that clean… I’m not sure you would be able to tell what you were looking at. Just a pic off the interwebs I grabbed to make a suggestion. ;)

Besides, the whole front of my engine is currently scattered around the shop right now. I was THIS close to pulling the trigger on a Harrop, believe you me. But Whipple hooked me up with a 3.0. More to that story but I don’t want be a drama queen. Ha. We’ll see how the Gen IV sings. I gotta get the ‘13 put back together before the ‘21 gets Whipple-fied…

But I’ll own this engine bay for now.

    upload_2025-8-1_21-32-17.jpg

But to keep it more relevant @Toyfever, my wife’s sequoia is still naturally aspirated and was tuned by OTT. It made a HUGE difference in driveability. Dyno graphs show something like an additional 40 HP in the lower-mid to midrange power band with the tune, which is noticeable when driving. And since HP is simply a function of torque with respect to time, more HP at the same RPM means more torque at that RPM. Peak HP doesn’t change much, but you have more power under the curve where you can use it. The tune was well worth it. A SC is also well worth it :D

You’re only 60k on the plugs, I wouldn’t say you need to change them again; you could pull the first one just to see what it looks like but you’d just be throwing money away

This. It would be about time to change the original plugs if they were still in there.

If you can find them the Thorley shorty tri "y"s might net you some low end torque, or at least that is what was advertised. I doubt you would get huge gains out of them since the stock headers are pretty decent for NA setups. You wouldn't have to deal with any O2 issues either.
Edit: You could keep your stock cats in place.

This may be a question for Overland but I live in a county that requires annual emission testing. I read on their site that the testing facility could detect a CVN mismatch so I'm wondering if they actually look for this and if so would it cause me to fail the emissions test?
I did by the way notice she perked up a bit back when I put the plugs in

I'll keep you posted for sure. To make sure everything is in good order I went ahead and replaced the plugs with Denso Platinum power. The ones I pulled looked ok. One had a tar like black goo on it which I suspect is the plug tube seal breaking down. I also cleaned the MAF sensor and found the air filter snorkel coupling pinched and torn on the bottom on the intake end. I fixed it as best I can for now. It's definitely more responsive but I still want to get the tune done.

You could also look at doing the SABM or a CAI that actually pipes it into the fender

What does SABM mean? Also I don't understand why AFE designed an additional opening in the air filter housing then offer a block off cover for it

I’ve seen those, doesn’t make much sense

    SABM: stock air box mod

you essentially drill a hole in your fender and air box and connect it with tubing to allow more air into the intake, I’ve heard good things about it

On the AFE design the air box will pull in some hot air from the engine bay, the plugs are to keep hot air out. They may also offer them for dusty environments or for when crossing deeper waters that could wash into the air box.

Recommend checking out Stillen's CAI if you are considering an air box and/or SABM.

Woah, so it takes some ram air from the grill and air from the fender? Pretty cool

It would be even more cool if I could use it but it's my understanding it won't fit a 2007 model. BTW they also sell a block off cover.

Go down to a stick 2 3/4” tailpipe paired with that exhaust, that’ll give you a little of the low end torque back that the 3” tailpipe is losing you.
