    Hey guys
quick question. I noticed my load sensing proportioning valve is leaking. It’s leaking a decent amount to be honest. I put in a bottle of dot 3 brake fluid Thursday afternoon and last night my brake light came back on( just under the minimum sign.)

I work all weekend and almost everyday next week. Is my tundra okay to drive? I’m hoping to get a timeline for the fix figured out on Monday.

Not really, leaky brakes are going to turn into spongy brakes really fast. Can you climb under the truck and see where exactly it's leaking from? If it's a fitting, maybe you can tighten the fitting. If it's a cracked line, it's not safe and you could potentially have limited or no brakes at some point soon. Repeatedly topping off the brake fluid is a band aid fix at best to get the truck to a brake shop, not something that should be done to continue commuting with the truck.

You don't want air to get into the lines.

It would help to know where it's leaking. There's three places I can imagine it leaking -
    • The bleeder, which is a small protrusion/nippled on the side
    • Where one of the three brake lines enter/exit the valve
    • From a crack in the valve body
Truth of the matter is, if it's one of the first two, the solution may be as easy as breaking out a wrench and tightening up the offending fitting. But you should follow-up with bleeding the system if you notice any spongeyness to the brakes. And check the reservoir in the engine bay for fluid level, of course.

Are you based in Portland? Do you have a mechanic you recommend? @Upshot Knothole

I am in Portland, I haven't used this place yet, but I have heard good things about them and plan on taking my Tundra there soon to do the timing belt.

If you hold your phone up above the valve can you get a photo of where that fluid is leaking from?
