What else should be done with the serpentine belt?

    2013 Tundra 4.6L Double Cab
    I have a 2013 Tundra 4.6L with 121k miles.

    New to me this year and I have no idea what was done before me.

    I want to change the serpentine belt and I'm wondering what else people normally change at this mileage. Or maybe some don't change anything and just do the belt.

    Other options I've heard are:

    Idler pulley
    Belt tensioner

    And what about the water pump? How long do the original water pumps usually last? Do I do it now at 121k or can it go to the next serpentine belt?

    How many miles do you go between serpentine belt changes?

    Serpentine belt should be fine, unless its making noise replace the idler pulley, same with tensioner. I replaced both at 275k when I was already annoyed by the sound, but my pulley was stripping serpentine belts for years...

    My water pump on a 5.7 1st one lasted 25k miles, replaced under warranty. The 2nd blew at 250k and it had been weeping for a year.

    My 2 cents is wait until it starts leaking. That is your clue to replace it. I removed my skid plate years ago, so I noticed right away.

    All I can tell you is, be sure to replace the belt tensioner when you replace the water pump and belt. I won't tell you how I know, but I just do.

    Replace the serpentine belt when you start to see cracks on the ribbed side, and always carry a spare with you.
    That's the downside of only one belt to drive everything. Without a spare you're roadkill.

    In how many miles have you seen the serpentine belt fail?

    That was too many years/vehicles ago...belts & tires always fail at the worst possible time.

    Serpentine belt is every 100k for me on every vehicle I own. They may be good for 150k, or maybe only good for 90k. Hard to predict. I replace some parts proactively vs. waiting for them to fail. When the serpentine fails, it leaves you with no power steering, AC, or battery charging. Those are all good things.

    Yea mine looks really good, no cracking, but I don't know if it is original or not so I'm going to do it. Plus it could have been in there for many years being a 2013. I don't like being stranded on the road or carrying an extra one.

    Replace it, but keep it as an emergency spare.

    I recently replaced my belt, tensioner, and idler pulley. All OEM. Had some noise from the belt and pulleys before the change, but all is good and smooth now. I don't know if the previous owner ever changed those, but I changed them at 185k, so it was due. I'll keep a good (better) replacement interval on those.

    Thanks for that. I think I'll do just the belt now (121k) and around 200k I'll do the belt, tensioner, idler pulley, and water pump.
