Anyone else find the hood "flutter" troubling at speeds ?!

I recently had the chance to do a 2k roadtrip for customer visits from VA to SC, TN and IN.... noted that over 90 I really get significant hood flutter I'm assuming due to the tin foil thick metal and the wide open grille....

Anyone have a solution for stiffening or ? At the speed limiter, it's almost scary how much flex and flutter there is ...

Ironically my wife's truck is a true "cube" ... but at 130+, the hood is solid ....

    thoughts ?

I have had mine pinned to the limiter at 112 for extended periods and it was not a issue. The truck tracked awesomely even in cross winds at that speed.

The hood bump stops may need adjustment on your truck methinks.

Mine has flutter as well. Same thing above 80. Does not seem to hurt anything, but I have noticed it.

My 3rd Gen Tacoma did this. It was one of the first 2016s. Not enough bond applied between the ribs and the skin. I didn’t want a new hood that they said they’d have to paint so a tube of RTV and I re-bonded it myself. Never another flutter for 9 yrs. I owned it.

I just got back from a roadtrip in which I averaged 85 mph into a stiff head wind for much of trip. I didn't notice any hood flutter.

Mine flutters, but not all the time or consistently at higher speeds. I think wind direction may have something to do with it

Stop drinking and driving. That helps the wobble. Kidding

This has been my experience also.
Usually only noticeable at 70-75+ but not every time.
I don't find it to be excessive or bothersome.

Different wobble. Use Lane centering assist to correct that one.

I haven’t experienced any concerning flutter while driving at highway speeds. I do notice it in the high pressure car wash :)

can you have your passenger make a video?

    Lots of stuff!
I had this fixed on my 2019 Ridgeline. I didn't notice it on my Tundra but if I did but didn't have it long enough to notice.

I would try the dealer to fix it first and if that doesn't work, I would get some high strength silicone like Dow 795 and run some beads between the gaps at the framing under the hood and to the hood. They have a reinforcement under the hood but someone probably forget to glue it. You will need to remove the felt liner or at least peal it back to access the frame. The Ridgeline was horrible and when you got beside a semi on the highway, it almost looked like it was going to fly off.

    Hope this helps...

It's rare but the hood is made of aluminum so some flex isn't out of the ordinary. Doesn't mean it's compromised as airplane wings also flex. I'm sure Toyota did some wind tunnel testing for mpg purposes but I wouldn't expect laminar flow over the front of our trucks lol.
