I'm pretty sure it's in the general settings through the infotainment screen. I turned mine off right after buying the truck

My '24 limited Tundra just has the open option that works well as does the manual mode. A friend of mine has a '25 Limited that has the option for opening and closing. He's owned his about 2 months and it opens well with button or key fob but sticks too much trying to close it. You can hear the actuator trying to close it, but no go occasionally. So back to the dealer to figure it out.

I kinda think the powered tailgate is a bit over the top.
I've driven Trucks my whole life and can't think of a single time where I'd have needed one.
Although I'm sure there have been instances where I would have used it if I'd had it.
And it does have that "Cool Factor" going for it.
Not sure I'd bother fixing it if it broke on me if it wasn't under warranty.
And I suppose if it was a work truck that you were in and out of the Bed frequently it would definitely be a benefit.
But if you're like me and like most truck owners We dont open our tailgates all that often.
    Now power windows?
    Yeah most definitely need those!!
Hell,do they even sell trucks or cars without them these days?

There is a sensor associated with the tailgate that will stop it based on pressure/resistance so the tailgate will open but stop when it hits the rack. From my experience it will stop when it hits the rack but there is enough force that I feel like it will scratch the tailgate. The tailgate only has two positions, open and closed so you can't stop it when opening at a location by pushing the sensor again nor can you disable the auto tailgate to my knowledge. If my rack is on and I want to pop my tailgate open a little to reach in a release the tonneau cover its cumbersome as I have to manually stop the tailgate with my hand and then push it back when done while fighting the motor resistance. I ended up just stowing most of my bike stuff under the rear seat so I don't have to mess with it. Remember to turn off your rear backing sensor when you have your rack on as that will set off klaxons and lock your brakes up in reverse giving you a mini heart attack.

In and out to get tools the power tailgate is painfully slow. For me especially when I need to wait for it to fully close so I can close my camper shell.

If you don't like it, just deactivate it. You will get a regular tailgate

Pretty slick.. I'd put it in the category of "crap i dont really need", but its nice to have. Like others, I worry about longevity but we shall see.

By deactivate what exactly do you mean? There is an actuator beh8nd the passenger tail light. If I de-energize it won't I fight it to open and close?

My Platinum came standard with it I believe, wasn't going to be a fan of it but turns out I use it more than I expected and like it, 6500 miles so far with no problems. I have one of those cargo trays secured in the back of the bed and like to power down the tailgate when approaching the truck to put groceries and stuff under the tonneau cover. If or when it breaks I'll fix it or have it fixed. I also turned of my seat moving back when you turn the truck off.

    Steve.........

That doesn't truly deactivate it. The problem I'm having with it is the electric latches aren't releasing so it won't even open. This wouldn't fix that. And you'd still be fighting the motor to raise it.

It doesn't open and close free of the actuators and it doesn't have a mechanical handle or latches so there's no deactivating the tailgate. All there is is turning off the powered lift
