    Hey all,
does this seem normal to you? The radiator is very full but the overflow seems (to me) to be very low. I'll grab a pic of in the radiator once it cools down but was at the very tip top (like maybe .5-1" from where the cap rests. How high does the rad stay before filling the overflow?

Should the overflow be filling more than this if the rad is that high? I recently had the timing belt/ water pump /thermostat job done (at the dealer, don't ask!) and noticed some pink residue after that (?) around front and back of the cap and maybe that hose? The rad cap had flaky rubber so I thought it could be changed anyways, and maybe was acting up. I threw on a new cheapy Napa cap to see if it would equalize from rad to overflow more but no change.
I'm not really seeing any crusty anywhere else, but I can't really see the water pump, thermostat etc. No crusties from dripping on the back side of skid plate from what I could see. Only drove a few miles but went to almost halfway on the gauge & stayed there (no higher).

EDIT: Here's the pic of the radiator level (kind of hard to see the exact level). Also, fyi, truck has been driven about 500 miles since timing belt job.

Mine is always 90% empty but I know it shouldn’t be that way. Hasn’t caused me any issues to date.

Ideally, the cooling system will have no air in it… air will purge into the expansion tank with heat cycles.

With no leaks, the level in the expansion tank will be consistent when cool; if the level is dropping, it’s because you have air purging or you are losing coolant somewhere.

Radiator cap is cheap and easy to replace.

Cap looks ok but no way to know if it holds pressure. Also the center of the cap is known to fail as they get old. You do have some corrosion on the cap and the top of the radiator but coolants looks clean. Assume it was changed with TB.

Thanks for the replies. Funny note, that pic of the reservoir level was actually not me but the pic I saved as an example (from 1A youtube vid):frusty:
Mine's basically the same just hard to get good pic. I was initially concerned with seeing the level that low in the res after getting work done & the signs of leakage/seepage near the cap & hose. Guess these overflows leave a LOT of room for expansion. I'll keep an eye on coolant and temp levels until I change the radiator based on time anyways (no pink milkshakes!).
