Currently driving a 17 limited, with the TRD wheels, but I had another 17 (SR5) back when they were new, and I still have the steel 5 spokes in the shed. I've been thinking about mounting some snow/ice rated gnarlies on them for winter, maybe paint them black or something, IDK. Question is, since they are the same year, will the tpms sensors that are still on the steel wheels pair with the truck or will I need to re learn them? I assume they will need batteries. Don't want to have to do a re learn twice a year and my scan tool doesn't do tpms.

Yes. The new sensors need to be programmed to be recognized by the truck. Think of it like buying a new Bluetooth speaker. You turn the speaker on for the first time, and your phone doesn’t automatically connect to it. You have to physically go into the settings and select the new device to pair. TPMS obviously aren’t Bluetooth, but the principle is the same.

@red61cj5 The batteries are not replaceable. You will need new sensors if they are dead. 10 years is the average lifespan.

Well, shit. Maybe Ill just get new sensors, get them programmed and shove them in a wheelbarrow tire in the toolbox. Or maybe just buy a scan tool that can do tpms. Any recommendations?
