An AC shop recently gave me a scare when they noted in their report that my timing belt was allegedly beginning to crack and needed to be replaced.

Checking behind the cover, it appears to me the timing belt is in ok condition, but I’d like to confirm here. It was last replaced about 50,000 miles and 7 years ago, so I believe it will be due in the next year or two. Just trying to understand if this is an urgent need.

    Looks good me

Edit: maybe they were referring to one of your drive belts? What does those look like?

It looks decent, but was it replaced with an Aisin or OEM kit? If not, you're probably due. But that aside, why would the AC guy look at the timing belt? Maybe they meant the serpentine belt?

Is that the LH or RH No.3 timing belt cover?

This was the driver side cover, I believe that’s LH?
I’m not sure what kind of replacement it had unfortunately as it was done under the previous owner.

It was in the shop for AC issue diagnosis but I think they did a ‘complimentary inspection’ to BS me and try to upsell work. Don’t bother with Catherine Auto in Atlanta - they’re not trustworthy.

The serpentine belt was replaced at the same time as the timing belt and looks decent and appears to be tensioned correctly. I think my AC issue is either due to a leak or something going on with the compressor but I’m still troubleshooting that area.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

Ac on these are right forward. Leaks? Find and fix. Part not working, replace, vac and fill. Electric boogers, burn it and say incantation

Dude. Lextechs has two locations and ToyoTechs has one, both are super reputable. Why are you pissing around with anyone else?

In my experience, you can't tell if a belt is about to break by looking at it.

The belt that was on my truck right before I got it, had a crack between every tooth, but wasn't broken.
The one that just broke on my wife's subaru, looked perfect and still had the registration marks on it.

OP, just go ahead and replace it. Interference engine, unknown belt maker, just do it.

I was so worried about mine when I bought it I parked it after the buy, rollbacked it to a shop I trusted, they replaced it. Aisin belt, water pump, pulleys, tensioner, whole 9 yards.
