I want it lightly clean my engine from the valve covers down. Is there anything I should do to protect any electrical components? I want to clean 5he valve covers with soap and a brush

To clean my engine bay I wet the engine with a light spray from the hose, then I spray with Gunk Engine Cleaner while avoiding the electrical components. After it sits for a few minutes I rinse with a light hose spray. usually no scrubbing is needed and I have never had an issue with the water hurting any parts. I do make sure the engine is cooled off first. This has been my process on my tundras since 2008.

I honestly find purple power APC, assorted detail brushes and a regular hose keeps my engine bay clean. Follow that with some Chemical Guys Silk Shine protectant and my engine bay looks clean/shiny enough.

Nope, never had an issue with that on multiple vehicles I've used it on. Mind you, I don't let it sit on there for an extended period of time, but no, no issues whatsoever.

I've never felt the need to clean an engine bay but if you wanted to be safe you could use this since its safe on electronics. It's great when you have one of those connections covered in grease so I'm sure if would work good as a general cleaner as well.

If ur vehicle is at least a 2005+ you can clean the engine bay. If you have an open intake, or turbos- cover that
I pressure wash them, but keep it moving. I do not focus on one spot. I then foam cannon it with apc, degreaser or another cleaner spray. I’ll brush it down, pressure wash it off and let it dry. Once clean, I then dress it with detail spray.
I would do this first, after wheels and tires. I do it when the engine is cool.
