After scouring FB Marketplace for 6 straight months, I finally found a color matched topper in great condition. The 2019 it came off of only had 15k miles and was a grandpa special. . I got a good deal and it had most of the options I was looking for. Leer 100XR, Debadged it for a little cleaner look. Official Grandpa Gang

Anyone with an ARE shell with the "windoors" have any pictures looking down the side of the truck? Trying to see how far out the handles stick on the windoors. Thank you!

Why do you have my truck, looks almost identical to mine!

 

A.R.E. DCU High Wedge Truck Hero cap on my 2002 long bed, I specified a full size hatch-back rear door that eliminated the tailgate. The roof leaked, so instead of returning it to the factory for repair and waiting weeks, I convinced them to seal it with Line-X under warranty.

 

After two years of casual searching and a couple of missed sales, I finally found my topper. An ARE MX, not HD. It has screened windoors, dual handles all around, carpet, and a sliding front window. And it's in MGM to match my truck. I might take it to Suburban Toppers to have a professional install done (new seals), and swap out the sliding front window for a tilt down. Mrs. Catus doesn't like dirty windows. I'm looking into racks to see if I can rig up something so that I can carry my hang glider up top.

What kind of mpg impact did you see from adding the topper?

 

@dsundy - sorry, was out of the country till last Thursday and couldn't post for some reason. I don't track my mileage, so I don't know if I took a hit. I swear the truck rides better, so if I did take a hit, it's worth it. I figure the extra 200 pounds or so for the cap dampens the ride a bit.

Do side windoors open? What's on the roof. Overall goes good with a black truck.

Facebook Marketplace score! Found a color match ARE CX Classic 3 hrs from me. Does anyone have a set of clamps laying around that utilize the tracks vs the basic clamp on style? Also, has anyone swapped out the basic side windows with ones that open?

 

Cap looks sweet but unfortunately no on the clamps and mine came already with opening windoors.

Windoors will run about $500 installed, or $250 DIY for thr Leer 100xl
