What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I wonder how many times that happened and the house got demolished or burned down and no one ever knew.
This lady showed me a picture of her husband holding a stack of small bills that was like 2 feet high. She said it was mostly 1s 2s 5s and silver certs.

 

If i died today someone is going to find a 200lb shiner box stuffed full of coins. Havent counted recently, but it was more than $3k a few years ago. I dont know what it weighs, it doesnt slide on carpet anymore. That didnt count the 1.5 51oz folgers cans of pennies, or the jar of old coins.

 

Anything is possible but I doubt there is much money to be found amongst that garbage.....real trash of a renter lived there, then some number of squatters (AKA "drug addicts").

Frankly, I am not looking forward to this job but the client is a friend and he isn't going to be able to afford anyone else. Like everything else we take on, "we'll just have to come through."

Just came in from doing an oil change and filter, installing a Valvomax oil drain plug, and removing the air filter. Seller gave me a new one, I'll try it on tomorrow. I have the air filter housing out, soaking it in detergent water. Those little squares were just full of a small type of sandy grit! I also wiped down the engine bay some and filled up the windshield washer tank.

 

Sometimes the cool part about hardcore druggies is they forget where they put things. Often. Like little hidden surprises, easter eggs, where you'd never expect them.

Sometimes that's a consequence vs. a benefit, like when those surprises end up being used needles, razor blades, broken glass, and other things that can seriously screw your life up.

Woke up at 5:30 AM to replace LBJs. I had done so 8,000 miles ago with what I think is OEM from a Japanese seller on eBay with really good feedback; however when I replaced them I coincidentally had a knock I could figure out 1,000 miles in. Broke the suspension down several times and could find anything. Checked the cross member several times.

Finally decided to accept I may have been took with some really good fakes and fake Toyota UPC. Replaced with repair kit from Ourisman this morning for peace of mind. Hope to test run it later after a shower and breakfast.

 

Plot twist: it’s the rack bushings or swaybar links.

 

what’s somewhat screwed up is, it is possible the “old” LBJs are OEM, I spent money for no reason AND it’s the rack rushing anyway lol. Worse case, I have a set of near new LBJs as spares .

 

That was my take also. I replaced my OEM LBJs installed on recall back in 2007 with new OEM. I have emergency spares now, so if I happen to see a good deal on a truck someone is tossing after a failed LBJ, I've got two on-hand (assuming it's '04+).

 

Finally got the new welder and the side brackets welded...well my buddy did. Doing some finish grinding today and off for coating Monday. This thing has been a pain in my ass...lol.

Any market for a front bumper shell and hitch? I mean, I can't even get a new Coastal rear bumper sold at half price sooooooo....

 

Finally getting off my ass on this one. Over the next 48 hours, I'll have three more adapters delivered in misc shapes and sizes.

I'm adamant about kitting out my rear doors with 6x9 co- or triaxials. I have a sneaky suspicion Toyota used a similar bolt spacing on the AC rear doors as either the rear deck of some of the sedans, or the doors of the Taco or newer Tundras, but the only way to figure it out is to test a few different adapters.

Speaking of which— does anyone carry spare LBJs and a few bolts in the truck in case the unfortunate failure were to happen? Just curious

 

I don't carry in the truck, but I know a couple on this forum that definitely carry spare pairs when they go out on trail rides.

I have a spare set in a tool box. I'll throw that tool box in the truck for road trips. I don't have it in there at the moment because I had to find space for a car seat.

I do keep spare bolts in the truck though.

 

Went out for a nice early evening drive

 

Got the air filter housing "done" (as clean as I felt like getting it) and put back in. Cleaned the space under it and the engine bay in general. Underside of hood was a challenge, had to get on a step stool and do a lot of stretching. Cleaned the cowl area....may be missing a couple of rubber "hood bumpers" or whatever those are called. I need to do this again anyway with a specialized tool....where truck body and hood meet at the hinges has collected a lot of dirt from leaves breaking down over time. New air filter in.

About to drive to a flat spot and finish up the oil change.

 

I'm looking forward to a road trip with my Tundra as well. Every August the wife attends this Indonesian picnic day. It's about 200 miles round trip or so and it'd be nice to see how the Tundra does on a trip, not pulling a mowing trailer.

 

Back breaker job there!

I tried doing a mulch job via bags but dropped that idea quickly! Trailer load, wheel barrow, and shovels for us! (Plus we refuse those jobs altogether now so that really helps).

 

For 1 person, yeah. But I have like a ton of kids. So…

No kids. Just got married in 2021!

Picked up new LBJs from the dealership. Need to find a good local shop to do them and the timing belt at the same time. Also thinking I should go ahead and order up cam seals to replace at the same time. Debating on the radiator, I'd have to dig through the receipts from the previous owner to see when it was last done. It looks ok, and the truck runs fine while sitting in traffic with the AC on in 100º heat, so maybe just a flush and see how the hoses look. Need to head down to the Bay Area soon and been waiting till I got these done before subjecting myself to that drive.
Looking at Rock Auto for the cam seals, I think Fel-Pro is the name I see thrown around here the most. Also going to order up new NGK plugs and boots.

Now if anyone in the greater PDX area can recommend a good Toyota shop, I'd appreciate it. Talked to one mechanic that hangs out at my neighborhood bar and I've considered throwing the work his way, but he thought the 4.7s only came with VVTI. Wasn't aware of the earlier version.
