    The tundra just hit 10,000 miles and I'm up for the "free" oil change.

    When I took it in for 5K, they did not even put the tire caps back on 50% of tires. I changed my own oil at 5K and will do so every 5K. The ONLY reason I'm contemplating this is bc it's 98 in Aftn and not real cool. I've just heard a lot of war stories re dealer "tech's" and the oil changers are intro guys for sure. Thanks

    Take advantage of the free service but make sure you don't have any leaks, the oil is full, and everything they say they did is done.

    I’m a do my own maintenance kinda guy. I just don’t trust anyone to work on my stuff. That being said, your dealership may have some good techs. I would love to take advantage of the included service (nothing is free) that is offered. Sad, but you will have to check all of their work, and potentially have them go back to remedy anything you find wrong with their work. Sounds like your last experience was poor. I would expect the same this time.

    Thx guys.

    My dilimma is:
    -do i express my (-) experience prior to wk and put them on notice, then if the "tech" gets po'ed, do a crappy job, or,
    -say nothing & let the chips fall where they may?

    I'm ok w the heat, but i have to take it in for all the other things, so I'm contemplating the oil change too. It's really crappy that you have to Ck their wk. i have OEM filters & crush washers, and use one of the best synthetics there is, next to Pennzoil premium. BTW, what oil do they use? Thanks

    I always give feedback, either I say how good the service was and I appreciate it or I complain. The guys behind the counter have no idea on if the actual service is good or bad so I always tell them in a polite way.

    There's always the option of a different dealer... I would definitely say something though, as above, the service advisors don't know the condition of the tech's work; and lube techs aren't always around for the long term to know their patterns

    I learned my lesson with my 2016 and the first couple free oil changes. Decided I was too busy to do myself before a cross country move, and that was the day they ended up accidentally keying my door. Created a giant headache to deal with literally days before an already stressful major move. Never again. No one will do as thorough a job as you will on basic maintenance items. Especially not the high schooler they have doing the oil changes. YMMV, good luck.

    I say take advantage of the free service, but as mentioned, check everything before you leave. My check list is:

    1. Make sure the drain plug is tight.
    2. Beforehand, mark the existing oil filter, so you can easily verify it's actually been changed.
    3. Make sure the oil fill cap is on.
    4. Check the oil level.
    5. If you have them do a tire rotation, mark a tire with chalk beforehand, so you can confirm they were actually rotated.
    6. Look your truck over carefully for any damage, both interior and exterior.

    I've also found that you can often casually walk around the outside of the service bay building to find your truck. On several occasions, I've been able to chat the tech up while I watch him do the work.

    I got older, I live in New Orleans...it's hot. I gave up on doing oil changes a long time ago. At least with the stealership I have a better chance of getting them to make it right when they screw something up.

    Thanks again guys...

    Another option is to let them do everything but the oil change, and ask them to give me:
    * 7.7 qts of oil to spec
    * OEM oil filter
    * crush washer
    * no grief

    BTW, what type of synthetic oil do they use?

    Again, thank you for your feedback guys, appreciate it.

    And, there is "no free oil change" or anything free. All of these "free services" are figured into the purchase price of every car they sell.

    They use their own branded synthetic oil. I've read it's made by Mobil and has the same specs as Mobil 1 0w20 . It's outrageously expensive at my local dealership, so I just buy Mobil 1 at Walmart.

    Thanks / do you know what version of Mobil 1? It has a lot of variations.

    Just pick a flavor and send it. Frequency and flow (viscosity) matter, flavor doesn't

    lol / i bet i could talk them into a few things. I had those defective front brakes and they pads snd all were on 3-4 months back order. They had one set for another retrofit and about 2 hrs later, i drove off w the brakes replaced. Now I'm up for another challenge.

    Yep you ain't shitting about the horror stories. Yep oil change dudes don't give a shit about free scratches. Took mine in for paint sealant, and it came back with scratches. They of course denied it, even though I had photos before said incident. Always take pictures if you are dropping it off for work especially at a dealership. They wanted to fucking charge me for the fucking touch up paint.
