Can these timing chains jump teeth?

Hey everyone- I recently made the great decision of buying a government owned ‘08 5.7 Double Cab sight unseen and trailered it home today. About 250K on it. It starts but misfires really bad and has an awful timing chain rattle.

Looks like someone tried throwing aftermarket coils at it unfortunately and did a slop job on the valve cover gaskets. It’s got 9 codes, including but not limited to P0300 (random misfires,) P0303 and P0305 (cylinders 3 & 5 misfire,) P0355 (Ignition coil E primary/secondary circuit.) and P0390 (camshaft position sensor circuit bank 2.)

I’m wondering if there’s one issue causing all the codes at once. I know about the common timing chain tensioner failure, but can that cause it to jump timing? I would think no, but the issues are pretty confusing. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Interesting. Very low compression on cylinder 3 and 5. About 60lbs on #3 and 30lbs on #5. Leak down test shows no leakage even at 100 psi.

A stuck-open thermostat will deliver that crud given enough time.

Maybe bad head gasket? Blown between those cylinders?

Bet that pcv is clogged solid, probably the separator too. Intake manifold is most likely dripping with residue.

It’s the worst I’ve ever seen for sure. The amount of solid dirt and RTV remains under the valve covers is insane.

Any suspicious looking cam lobes on 3 or 5?

Not that I’ve noticed yet. The valves move.
