    Did the engine blow up?

Finally hooked up aftermarket back up lights, they have been sitting in the garage longer than I care to share.
I tucked them up high and tight out of the way for a couple of reasons, I didn't want them hanging low so they will get hit by snow drifts, sand when on the beach or rocks "if" and that's a big if I head off road.
But most of all they are out of plain sight unless your underneath the back end.
I took my time and used dielectric paste on all connectors covered them with shrink tubes and 1/2" split wire loom with zip ties to dress it all nice and neat.

Not a biggie but something I have been putting off for waaaay to long.

Put some screens on my turbo intercoolers because i noticed a bunch of debris was trapped inside the air box leading to them. When cleaning them out I also found a very unlucky bat that had gotten trapped in there as well.

Yeah thats my issue, I think I found a thin net material I can attach about an inch from the radiator but with it being mesh and not metal I wonder the effectiveness of it.

Tested out the adjustable air suspension and it actually works. It raises the back end over an inch or lowers it just over an inch. Just wondering if anyone who has it actually uses this feature at all?? I suppose it could help with loading and unloading.

I’m talking about the manual adjustment with the button on the console. Not the auto load level feature.

Had to go back to my oem battery since the x2 gave up the ghost. Could barely crank over, drove 1hr with all sorts of warnings on the dash and in reduced engine power. Slapped on the 3yr old oem battery and im back in business. 5 month old x2 is going back for a warranty replacement. What a piece of junk that one turned out to be. Had real good luck with a previous x2 on a other car, so this was a big surprise.

The problem is that it's AGM, they require a higher charging voltage. If you don't charge at the right voltage, they will die a premature death. A place out there makes a module for 1st and second gens (no 3rd gen option last time I checked) which is especially made for AGM batteries and it increases the charging voltage so you don't kill the battery. I had one I was going to put in my gen 2.5 to run an x2 battery, then I got the gen 3 and sold it here on the market place. They were designed and created to solve the exact problem you are having.

I just installed this dash garnish to replace the stock blank one.

    20250717_112329.jpg

I did leave a mark on the dash with the pry tool grrrr, it looks like a dash cover just moved up my list of things to buy and install. I love the look of the garnish with the flat black and red outline Toyota on it. Now I need to order the 2 small, drivers side garnish pieces as the new one with the letters is darker than the one that was on the truck, dark grey vs silver.

Regularly hooking up to a charger supporting AGM is the answer. I plan to run a Noco genius Gen5x1 for trickle charging and then when I decide to go AGM, this will prevent early battery death.

I have one waiting for me to finish the battery terminal work.

From Voltagebooster Pro regarding 3rd Gen compatibility:

    "Hi Kirk,

Thanks for reaching out and for your continued interest in our voltage boosters.

Regarding your question about a voltage booster for the 3rd generation Tundra (2022-2025) and 2018-2025 Sequoia models, the new Tundras actually feature a different charging system. Unfortunately, due to this change, our current voltage boosting method is not compatible with these newer models. This is indeed a technical limitation preventing us from offering a booster for them at this time.

    Best regards,
    VoltageBooster PRO"

I've never had issues before with these "smart" alternators fluctuating voltage and AGM batteries. Might have to look into these boosters, although 0.3v doesn't seem like that much to kill a battery in 6 months.
If anything, charging voltage should be lower when exposed to high temps like under the hood. I know XS told me that their batteries shouldn't be charged as high if under the hood.

You should try to do some research on this topic. I had to do it myself about 7 years ago as I had this problem in my LX470 running $500 dual Odyssey batteries and I had to have the alternator place I got my 260 amp idle alternator from, modify the diodes to increase the voltage so I didn't kill a second set of batteries after my first set lasted about 18 months. Prior to the Odyessy batteries I was running two sets of Die Hard Platinums which are also AGM and lasted around 18 months to 2 years. That's why I sought out the voltageboosters pro product when I was getting ready to replace the 4 year old lead acid oem battery in my 2021 with an X2. Some folks get lucky and get near full lifespan from AGM batteries with no mods, but others like me don't. Notice the charger that I put a pic of above has multiple setting based on the battery chemistry. They added the AGM and Lithium settings because the batteries can and will die a premature death being charged at lead acid voltage.

I'm gonna have to go down this rabbit hole, I guess. I ran dual XS D3400 with a 300A alternator on my 05 Silverado with a similar charging system as this Tundra. Varied voltage according to battery status and driving conditions, and it was fine for years and years. Didn't know this was an actual thing with AGM batteries. Brb, connecting to the Matrix and downloading

Apparently, Chevy overdid their charging from what I recall, I believe they (the place I got my high output alternator from) offered a Chevy rectifier installed in certain of their upgraded alternators.

Just ordered a Noco genius 5. I'll hook it up to the x2 and see what it does...maybe take it to get load tested after its topped off

Your x2 should have a free replacement at 6 months, get a fresh one from batteries plus and use the Noco to keep it from failing prematurely. The Noco is meant for permanent hookup and mounting, (waterproof, dustproof etc.) just plug the ac cord in when near an outlet.
