Hi everyone I just wanted to share my experience with having my windshield replaced.

I was driving along when out of nowhere my windshield exploded. I didn't see a damn thing other than the windshield had a big indentation in it. I figured it was some kind of road debris. After pulling over checking myself and my underwear for additional damage, I decided to just get to my destination (I was traveling for the forth).

I reviewed the dashcam footage and it appeared to be a hand torch canister. I probably should have made a police report but I didn't.

I had my windshield replaced by Safelite on a Saturday, I didn't dig too deep into where they source their glass but they did say it was vin specific. Took them 1.5hrs, I did not get turned away for having a 3/1 lift (read that on here before) $725

New glass is wonderful. Will someone please throw a rock across my windshield without damaging anything else?

I'm older and have good car insurance....

Where do you think the canister came from?

It appears to be falling out of the sky in your pic. Did someone drop it off an overpass, or did it fly out of a vehicle in front of you?

Either way, I'm glad you weren't hurt, and you got your windshield successfully replaced.

Did you make sure that the goons At Safelite ordered OEM glass (need that Morse code Easter egg if Toyota is still doing that)? You really gotta watch those guys, and be sure to QA their work thoroughly. Run it through the car wash a couple of times to make sure there aren’t any leaks.

For $725, I highly doubt it is OEM glass.

At $725, I doubt he got OEM glass. I recently had the windshield on my wife's 2022 4Runner replaced. The bill was over $2000.

I just got a quote from my local glass shop for OEM and it was $1,317.64 including ADAS calibration.

    That seems reasonable.

I admit, my local glass shop might have inflated their price because my wife's windshield was covered by our insurance. I was pretty shocked when I saw the bill was $2026.

Its been great thus far, I don't notice any difference between this glass and the OEM.
I'm pretty sure they said its Pilkington glass.

We have had plenty of hard rain the last couple of weeks and no leaks as of yet.

For anyone who has a factory dash cam, they do make the mounting plate available separately for a measly $50.
My mounting plate was broken as you can see.
My expert graphics show the feet that lock the camera in and where they're supposed to be.
