Is it part of the fuel pump recall? If not, how is a fuel pump a $2100 repair?? Seems to be between $100 and $400 part depending on how much you are replacing. Can’t imagine $1700 in labor to drop the tank.

That's a bummer. Definitely not a repair you expect from a Toyota truck that young in its life. Have they confirmed it's a fuel pump? That's a big bill for what "they think" is a fuel pump

Who is they? Shouldn't be to hard to confirm and shoot down a fuel pump? What symptoms?

The fuel pump directly from Toyota ranges 350-365.00.

I put a 62 gallon tank in my Dmax by myself.

I would look around on shop labor.

I would be pissed too, don't get me wrong.

It might be easier to remove the drivers side bed bolts, loosen the passenger side, prop up the bed using a 4x4. This will give you access to the top of the tank. Don't forget to take the filler neck screws out up top by the door.

I used ratchet straps to lower the tank and beer for me...should be easier than you can think...YT University it up and make it happen over the weekend. Perhaps don't use that dealership for the part...also, make sure they can define the "think" part of their suggestion...it is or it isn't, the fuel pump...

Yeah I need to go up there and have a serious conversation before they do anything else, they have not even torn it apart to really confirm it, service manager told me today the tech tried to manually force the pump to start and it didn't. So far they seem like they don't have a clue about much

There is an entire industry built around this stuff breaking. Mechanical items fail, and some vehicles are worse than others. Sometimes it’s just bad luck. Seeing the truck has a 140k miles, I don’t think you can say it’s that big of a surprise if it needs a fuel pump, or perhaps the fuel pump power module has failed.

I'll replace it for $1000 including pump, just drop it off in southern Utah for a day. You can even borrow a vehicle to drive around and see the sights while I work on it. :D

You're not getting bent over by an unreliable truck. You're getting bent over by a stupidly high dealership repair quote. Find a trusted local shop (they do exist). Look for local shops that specialize in Land Cruisers or Toyotas in general.
    Not at 140k miles.

    Some info here. https://www.tundras.com/threads/fuel-control-pump-control-module-removal.141123/

I initially was thinking fuel pump control module but since they tried to manually run the pump they probably know what they're doing. I don't know if you can run the pump using tech stream or if they tried through module harness?
