I am trying to sort out how to get my DRL to turn off on Morimoto XB on my 2021 TRD Pro with my headlight switch in parking light mode to disable the bright DRL LED strips at a dark boat launch in the morning.

I’ve thumbed through some previous threads and understand that the DRL is full bright with IGN 12v due to the fuse tap used and they appear to dim to about 50 percent when the marker lights are enabled. This may be good enough but you know how people can be at a busy boat launch before sunrise…

Does a wiring diagram for these Morimotos exist that can show me how the LED DRL strips are powered? I looked on their website and just found basic install instructions but no actual wiring diagram. I guess all I want to see is if one of the wires powers the DRL specifically or if it’s tied into the marker lights internally on the headlight? Then from there I can figure out either a switch or relay to do what I want.

One solution is to pull the fuse tap fuse that powers the DRL in full bright mode and then set the stalk switch to DRL off but then all of my marker lights go off too and my interior lights turn full bright, which is also not ideal at a dark boat launch.

I also see on my radio I can disable DRL but being that I no longer have the OEM LED headlights I can’t see how this functions. Can anyone confirm what this does in the different headlight switch positions? These Morimotos came on my truck when I got it and I don’t think I want to go through the hassle to go back to stock LED headlights for less light output, albeit I do think the stock ones look nicer and if I had full control of them via the stalk switch and radio setting that would be something to consider.

The Morimoto DRL's do not turn off on the Tundra using the switch. I have reached out to them in the past about this. They turn off on both of our 4Runners, but not the Tundra. I will have to look for the email from them to see how they worded it and why it doesn't turn off.

Well I know why it doesn’t turn off and that is because it’s powered by switched IGN 12v from the fusebox and not the headlight switch. As to why they did it that way vs maintaining the original functionality… who knows. I imagine it was a cost savings measure in one way or another? Too complex to make it work like OEM?

I guess what I am looking for is how the rest of the DRL circuit works in the headlight. What is it that makes DRLs dim and if there’s anything I can do to interrupt that circuit so that instead of dim they just shut off entirely any time the marker lights are on.

I guess one thing I should have added is that they do still turn on in the dim mode with the headlights on/parking lights on with the 12v IGN fuse tap fuse pulled, which now that I’m thinking about it does tell me the dim mode vs full brightness is two separate circuits in the headlight

I know a Morimoto guy that is involved in the design and development but he is in another forum.
