2013 Sequoia Limited to TRD FAUX build now with BOOST!

Finally working on it!
Never thought I'd be glad my car was invisible.



But I can still track it as long as an iPhone is around.

 

Sequoia might be ready today, when I called to see, I was told the old motor had an inspection port and that internally it was a gigantic mess, they said no way it was hydro lock & no way it was a 70k motor.

So there's that.

 

To be fair, after seeing the donor vehicle, if that engine was running when the damage happened then it's almost a miracle it ran in the first place.

 

I don't think it came from that truck now. Its vin had 70k.

 

Crickets from the shop, I assume until Monday.

I hate dealing with shops, asked the junk yard the blown motor came from for a refund, not optimistic.

 

I called yesterday, they said they could not find the front timing cover, builder said it was damaged by the oil pump & that they needed to use the cover from the '18 motor.

Waiting to hear if it is usable, feeling pretty shitty as week 3 is tomorrow & they quoted a week when they took on the job.

 

I got lucky. The timing cover on the motor that came out was ok.

They say it should be ready tomorrow.

 

Haven't heard from them, maybe tomorrow?

 

At 9am they said all that was left was the SC & belts/hoses. Should be ready by the end of the day.

I'll believe it when I'm driving home in it.

 

Not only not ready, didn't answer when I called at 4:30 and haven't read my text saying if it's ready it will take me 45 minutes to get there. Bwahaaaa

 

@ 7:58 PM I got this response to my message asking if it would be ready as he hoped & that I need 45 minutes to get there. (sent because he didn't answer the phone)

Not gonna happen I’m gonna try and work on it over the weekend a little bit possibly Monday. Just ran into a few gasket issues.

Today at 10:30 "it's 99% done," we need O rings or gaskets.

Meanwhile, no battery. SAD

 

They called at 2 asking about the SC coolant fill, sounds like they are ready to go?

NO!

Who needs batteries????

 

Just called, said he started it & 3 injectors are leaking, need O rings, but no battery?

 

Battery!!!!!

 

Could've been off a jump pack.

Got the Sequoia back, here's the old motor.

 

what made the hole?

 

I assume the rod but it's smaller than most rod damaged blocks I have seen.

Seems ok, no cel but I have a battery light. It's running at 13.4 which is lower than before. Checked grounds, all seem ok.

I'm lazy and don't want to go back to read up, but did you have starter work down before the failure? I can't help but look at that and think someone learned just how soft aluminum is when cranking on it with a big ass pry bar that has a hooked end.

 

When this started, the starter was clicking, apparently because the motor was stuck. I cranked the motor with a short pry bar, there was no binding. I thought it was a bad starter but hoped it was the main fuse so replaced that, NOPE. I paid a grand to replace the starter, the motor ran but sounded like a dryer with large metal bearings in it and it was losing oil.

There was no noise like I would have expected to hear when breaking a block.

 

Not as bad as the hole I made in my 5.7L Grand Cherokee after driving through a water crossing. fun times. Insurance covered it though.

 

Youch, that's broken.

 

Battery light was the AGM battery diode, so far all is well.
