Gen 1 2006 Toyota Tundra access cab SR5

I'm wondering if anybody has experience dealing with replacing they're bumper. I got an accident in December of 2024 and needs to stay even though it's rear end Collision they're saying it was my fault I don't understand how cuz I was sitting still when they crashed into me but I digress,So I'm trying to get this fixed rather than waiting for everybody to Decide who's going to pay or what they're going to do or whatever And before I take into a shop - I just want to know if there's so if I can do this or not. Correct me if I'm wrong I believe there is a subframe That holds that attaches the bumper to the body.Is that correct ? Is that sub frame welded on Or Bolted on - can I order that piece or part it out from a junkyard Just curious It's kind of hard to see what's going on underneath there... My poor baby

 

Did you have a factory tow hitch? Did it have the 7-pin trailer harness bolted to the rear of the truck?

Essentially, that may have taken the shock. The big thing is, you have two framerails that stick straight outta the back, it looks like this: https://tnstatic.net/attachments/20240701_172207-jpg.1017079/

That "X" crossmember is the spare tire support, FYI. notice how the tow hitch is bolted in (your 2006 will look a bit different, but it's also bolted in).

Anything else that's under there, like the bumper supports, are replaceable, easily, you can buy it all as a kit last I checked, it's under $400 and may be under $250 (and includes a new bumper skin). The first thing I'd be doing is getting underneath that truck and confirming:

• Visually inspect those two parallel frame rails front to back to make sure they aren't cracked, bent, folded, rippled, etc.
• With a tape measure, measure the distance between the framerails every 3-4" to make sure they're still parallel
• Make sure neither framerail is clearly cocked upward or downward, showing signs one is up higher than the other, or they're twisted

If those two framerails are intact, and totall straight/plumb/not twisted or cracked, then all you need to do is hit a junkyard to pull a new tow hitch assembly, bumper, and bumper supports, or if you didn't have a tow hitch you can probably buy something like this, new, which includes supports and hardware:

I hate that happened, but it doesn't appear too bad in the pics. Looks can be deceiving. Follow what shifty just expertly laid out about checking the frame rails. If the frame is good, all of the other components can be replaced. The steel bumper is only bolted to the support with 6 (maybe 8) bolts.
