Can someone recommend one which actually works?

    Thanks.

We use these… although usually doubled up in a faraday box.

Are you looking to stop the FOB pinging to prevent theft? If so I just turn my key off.

Press and hold lock and then press unlock twice. You’ll see the LED flash and the key is turned off which you can test by grabbing your door handle. Then press any button on the FOB to wake it up.

Edit: My fumble fingers did not work properly at first.

After 20 years with my 1st gen, lots of new gadgets to learn.

    Thanks.

it just looked weird. Post count of 1. Amazing picture of a product recommendation. I’m a little paranoid of that kind of manipulation.

no offense intended to actual forum members.

    mea culpa

What is the purpose of turning off the key?

I know why I might want to do it, but I am curious if my idea is reasonable.

Assumption-turning off the key: 1. Does not emit or recieve a signal . 2. saves battery. I have my spare FOB turned off to extend it's battery life.

I had not thought of those reasons.

I have thought about hiding the door key on my truck and leaving the fob hidden inside the truck. Just in case I lose my other fob in a lake, river or woods.

I use a GoDark vault faraday cage. Goes in every night. Here in Ontario car thefts are crazy, had a friend who went to help his son move apartments, spent all day packing and had their truck loaded up. Next morning truck was gone.

Turning off the key prevents cloning and someone getting in and starting your truck like they have an key. Faraday boxes work great but you have to bring them with you if you aren’t parked at home. For example I turn off my key at hotels in case someone goes down the hallways picking up FOB signals. And yes it saves batteries as well. For long off road trips I put my spare hidden in the truck turned off so if I lose my primary set I’ve got options. Turning off my key is second nature now as I’m walking into the house

That's how people are stealing modern vehicles.

They pick up the fob signal with a tool, and spoof it to the vehicle.

Pretty common in areas of Canada, and a little bit in SoCal.

    Hurray for having a garage

A sheet of aluminum foil folded into a pocket will work. It's not very heavy duty but you could use any type of pouch and just line it with foil on the inside.

I once ordered a Faraday Cage pouch for my phone from InfoWars. I tested the wi-fi signal strength when the phone was in the pouch verses outside the pouch. The pouch amplified the signal. So, whomever made the pouches was either incompetent or it was intentional. Intel agencies often pose as security agencies for obvious reasons.

FYI, on a recent cross country roadtrip, I turned my spare FOB off and stuck it in the center console. Then I hid the metal key in a waterproof magnetic box that I stuck to the frame rail under the truck. My thinking was, if I lost my main FOB, I'd simply reach under the truck, unlock the door with the hidden metal key, and my spare would be in the cab ready for use. Only one problem...the magnets on the box apparently weren't strong enough to withstand a 4500 mile roadtrip. It was gone when I got home.

I still think it's a good plan, but I'm going to find a box that I can zip tie under the truck, instead of relying on magnets.

I bought one off Amazon years ago for work by EDEC. Definitely worked for cell phone. I think mine was branded Black Hole but when I go through history it's now OFFGRID.

I was planning to take the battery out of the fob. Now I am just going to turn the fob off. I did not know that trick. Thank you, PappaDave418, for the education.

I don't have personal experience with it, but from a Privacy book I'm reading, they recommend SLNT
