    Guys,

My 2019 Tundra TRD's head unit has a shattered digitizer (the touch-sensitive glass layer only). My fault. (<==in fact that's my wife's fault, but she would deny it...)

While the LCD screen itself is still functional, the touch feature no longer works.
I found a replacement digitizer online for $30. While asked, my fav Toyota dealership refuses to install it, claiming it's a non-serviceable module and that Toyota HQ has banned them from performing such repairs. Their solution is to sell me a brand new unit for $1450.

I also contacted a local "mom and pop" audio/alarm shop, but they quoted a questionable price. $1,300 just to replace the glass, not the entire radio? WTF?

Given these f... costly options, I'm now wondering if there's an aftermarket unit that could serve as a suitable replacement? It needs to retain the functionality of the original unit, especially the backup camera. Ideally, I'd also love to gain extra features like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (or however you nerds call it :)).

I'm open to any suggestions you might have!

    Thank you!

What about the trail grid pro radio options? JBL option or not matters. The radios are setup very different.

What model head unit do you have? JBL or no? You don’t have your tundra listed in your signature to know what model you have. Replacement head units are all over eBay and Facebook marketplace for cheap.

Pull the radio and take it to a computer repair place. I'd be really surprised if they couldn't fix it for fairly cheap and fast especially if you have the replacement part.

I wouldn't spend much to replace or repair it, the OEM head units are garbage. If you're going to spend money, spend it on something better.

I'm super happy with the big ass Kenwood I put in my '19.

Noticeable improvement in sound quality, way better NAV (Google maps or WAZE from my phone) Android Auto/Carplay, better voice controls, voice texting, screen mirroring to my phone for Netflix, YouTube, etc. gauge packs for monitoring transmission temps, added a front camera (highly recommend this)

You don't have to go with the big 10" screen to get all this, but why not? :bananadance:

Or if you do just want to replace, I have the non-JBL HU that came out of my 2019.

+1 to the replace route, you can get a new aftermarket head unit that has wired (maybe wireless but usually they're spendier) apple carplay and android auto for ~$500 after tax and adapters, trim piece etc. All aftermarket head units I've seen have at least a backup cam input since backup cams became mandated in 2018 on new vehicles, and some will have additional cam inputs. I love having a front camera, bought one on Amazon for ~$50 and it's been one of my fav things so far.

If you want to stick with the stock appearance, volume knob etc., I think 2020 is when they added wired carplay/android auto to the stock head units, so 20-21 radios should have it, looks like they're ~$500 used on Ebay. I've got mine boxed in storage after replacing it with a Sony XAV-9000ES and love the wireless car play and front cam input. Not to thread jack but I'll probably be looking to sell it soon as well to fund a new PC.

All in all like anything it depends on your budget/goals. Totally talking out of my ass but I'd guess that with the part a PC repair shop would charge ~$100 to replace it, can't imagine it's a whole lot different/more difficult than a full screen replacement but again that's me just talking out of my ass. Spend maybe ~$100-~$150 total to have it fixed if that's possible, or spend ~$400-500 on a new setup.
