I'm blown away (no pun) by how much people appear to be spending on fireworks around the 4th. Look at these "deals" from a local firework stand. Who is spending $2, $3, and $4k?

I usually spend $30-$50 because the kids like it. If we want more, there are big, free shows all over the county.

In Missouri (where I lived until 2023) I spent a sh*tload on fireworks - like $300 or so every year. Mainly because you could buy all SORTS of stuff - mortars, sparklers, firecrackers, etc.

I now live in Virginia and evidently they have outlawed explosive fun here. LOL You can buy some sparkers and such, and that's about it.

    Zero.

Colorado is usually more dry than a popcorn fart. I can sit on my back patio and watch all the commercial fireworks shows for free. The ones off Pikes Peak is pretty good.

I spent about $120 this year. That was enough for about 5-6 (can't remember what we got) boxes of the multiple shot ones. Kind of the "mini shows" if you will. I would spend more, but we have a few families who all chip in. It is my favorite holiday because it is also my 10-year old daughter's birthday!

Haven’t in a few years, but used to enjoy lighting them off. I built my own launching stands for 2” mortars, my favorite firework. Had a few boards and could launch up to 8 mortars (16 shells with doubles) simultaneously with a roll of fuse cord.
Used to buy them at the Rocket Stop. walk in, grab a buggy-they know you mean business. Knew which ones had the most allowable powder and burst height.
Still have both thumbs and all fingers…

I spent $189.00 on a big box of safe & sane stuff. County is cracking down with hefty fines on the illegal airborne stuff.

Zero, for a couple of reasons.

    1. I live in San Diego and just about anything fun/dangerous is illegal here.

    2. I don't like watching my money go up in smoke.

One of my oldest friends (and Glamis dunes riding partner) literally bought a truckload some years ago. The guy brought it from Missouri or somewhere.

He sold a bunch to his coworkers (construction guys) and friends and that paid for him to go full retard for free.

I went to his house on the way to the dunes and when he opened his garage door there was like 5 pallets stacked 3' high with all the cool shit you can imagine.

Going to the dunes with him that desert season was like 4th of July every time.

We also found a great new game... we'd put on all our riding gear - helmet, goggles, chest protector, gloves, etc. and have Roman Candle duels at 20 paces. :rofl:Stupid AF but fun as hell.

HA! Apparently we're not the first morons to try this. We were much more mature and responsible though, we had safety equipment.
