What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Come up to Merus. 3rd weekend in October.

 

Greased the driveline and gave her a bath. And after a couple weeks of finger crossing, I think I can officially call the Valve cover gasket job done. No more leaky.

Hopefully someday. But I'm a lightweight - I'm afraid y'all might party me to death.

There's also Jeep vs Toyota in Gilmer, TX (an hour or so from you) at Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area from August 29-31. Then the weekend after Thanksgiving in Marble Falls, TX at Hidden Falls Adventure Park.

yeah I want to try to make it out to one sometime, but leaving the family is tough. I could sell it as a scouting trip that we could then do as a family weekend trip later on.

 

Let's see here...pulled the two axle trailer again, did three yards.

Had a flat on the trailer! Driver's side, rear wheel. I'm thinking "when I backed up that first client's road....." anyway....used the Tundra's factory tools (jack and bent handle for jack) and got the spare put on. This took all of 10 minutes according to wife. FINISHED WITH NO TIME TO SPARE AS A DOWNPOUR HIT RIGHT THEN.

As wife weedate the second client, I plugged the tire and put it back on, returning the spare to its "mount" on the trailer. Took two plugs to fill up that hole. Plugs have held so far.

This is the first time I've used a bottle jack supplied with a vehicle for a tire change.

 

You don't HAVE to drink. @JakeJake didn't. I don't think.....I dunno I was kinda drunk.

 

Swear you and Sid disappeared in the blink of an eye.

 

Stock jack and an occasional 4x4 are the superior tire changing options. Might not always be the quickest, but it is reliable and doesn't fail easy.

 

Stores well, too. But i have a floor jack in the toolbox on my trailer. I’d run a highway tire change like a pitstop if i had onboard air.

 

Just cause i’m ‘high functioning’ doesnt make me the dangerous one. It’s liquored up @Sirfive that finally lets yall make dumb decisions.

 

This past weekend, finally took the time to remove the lower air ducts to clean the mouse nest material out of them. Passenger side was good but the driver's side had blown the material up into it and clogged with no airflow. Pulled it out and then took it to our mop sink and washed it all out. Double checked the storage area under the back seat passenger side as well (couldn't remember if I had checked before) and found another one. That makes a total of 7 nests that I have removed from the truck now.


I also removed my dad's ladder racks off the bed for now. My daughter said she would like a cover for the bed of some sort. I've been watching FB Marketplace for either a roll up or tri-fold cover.


Waiting on a call that my replacement axle is ready to be picked up and then top off the axle and drive about an hour to go pick it up. Can't wait for this part to be done. Then the plan is to drop it off with our detail guy and he is going to go over everything and sanitize it from all the mice so my daughter can start driving it.

 

closing your outside vents halfway really helps the cahones cooler.

 

Even that wasn't working because of where the nest got lodged in the duct. The pictures haven't loaded yet but it was at the first joint of the lower duct right out from the center console. I need to get the AC recharged as well which will happen after the axle install as well.

Emailed TheSeatShop again, I failed to make my annual email in 2025 to inquire if they're making OEM-grade replacements for our trucks. I've been emailing them every year since 2020 or 2021 to see if they intend to release OEM-identical seat covers. They do an incredible job of sourcing OEM parts to rebuild essentially identical replicas. Anyway, still no dice.

The axle came in today! Went up and got it and used 3 bottles of gear oil to make sure I got up there and back without grenading the axle.

 

Those look nice. I'm interested to hear how they ride. I could be convinced to consider an on-road all terrain for my next set. My E rated AT3s are wearing like iron. And riding like iron too.

 

Removed the camper shell again after having it on for about a month for a weeklong camping trip the boy and I did. I figured out where water was getting into it and did a little planning this time--it was the bottom from seal that runs along the top of the bed next to the cab. Used some of that pipe-insulating foam with the excess pointed down toward the driveshaft. Got into some MEGA rain the first two days of the camp we went to, not a single leak. Hairy as heck though, thank God we had just practiced setting up the tent a few days before. Got the rain fly on and some redundant stakes put in with the help of two other guys right as it really started coming down. Got a little water in the tent because of some pinholes in the tub I'd never noticed before, but once we dug a horse-shoe shaped channel around the tent's footprint (whole campground was unfortunately on a little bit of a slope) we were in bidness. We had planned to truck camp but I'm glad we did the tent; it was just too dang hot even with our fans. The one night we got to sleep with the rain fly off was heaven!

As for camper shell removal, I have enough kids that this time I had one on each corner working a ratchet strap in sync, "UP! DOWN! UP! DOWN!" One pause halfway through to reset the strap on the ratcheting barrels (which I do with a fifth, pre-set ratchet strap so I can release the lifting one and readjust it). Got it off the truck and secured to the ceiling mounts in 15 minutes. When I have to raise or lower it by myself I use four ladders and go corner to corner a few cranks at a time--sucks but still lets me remove/install alone if needed. Yes that's the place. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be on their schedule or not. It will be my first time attending that particular event. It may be listed under Mountain Showdown.

I found it on the calendar, not sure why it's not under the events tab as well. Might be because it's not a close park event (like the Toyota Jamboree for example).

 

My old 1GT that my son now drives is officially a historic vehicle in Arizona. The new plate just came in the other day. 25 years, where has the time gone?

 

Not totally sure what you meant but we (um, "we" sounds better but really it was "I" but you men knew that already ) used a 4x4 and 2x4. Wife did some "go for" duty but she mainly took pics. Put together a great slideshow which I'm sure is on her Instagram page right now.

I put a 4x4 under the jack to give it some more height and a 2x4 to spread out the jack point load a bit. I almost always but a block on top of a jack.

We always carry an assortment of blocks....4x4's, 2x4's, I even have a couple of 1x4's in the bed.

I think we'd have been faster if I had my normal 2 ton floor jack to use but since the Tundra doesn't (yet) have a bed cover, I don't keep a floor jack back there as it would get wet.

Tundra again pulled the 2-axle....this time loaded with both our zero turns. We got one yard done and wife lied to me about the weather report! Prediction was worse than we needed but she lied and we got lucky! We got another large yard done and beat the rain literally by seconds. She admitted on the drive home "oh ya I lied about the rain prediction. The rain wasn't early, it was right on time."

Had to use 4wd to back up the trailer up a small gravel hill......she goes in and out of 4wd Hi easily now. I'll try to do the same with 4wd Lo.

 

Damn! I have to wait another 5 years in Commie Washington! But my 1996 Tacoma gets them next year.
