Am I insane for considering paying 23K for a 05 DC?

I’m considering paying $23K for this truck. The price initially seems insane in my mind, but I plan to keep it until the wheels for off (or until my wheels fall off). The nice thing about this truck is that it seems like it needs almost nothing immediately after the purchase. I have videos below of the exterior, interior, frame, and engine bay. It looks to be in excellent shape by my estimation.

    Notable Items:

-2005 DC 4x4 Limited w/ 118K miles- Texas or PNW it’s entire life

-Lower ball joints done at 109K in 12/2023

-Water pump/timing belt done at 111K on 4/2024

    -GX big brake upgrade

    -Dobinson IMS shocks w/ add-a-leaf

    -New SAIS

    -Backup camera, apple carplay

-Comes with a snugtop camper shell.

    The bad:

-Was in one accident wherein a door and side fender had to be replaced (all replaced with OEM parts). He says he can give me receipts for all work associated with the accident. Title is clean.

$17k. Maybe. I'm not paying $23k for that truck. It's been modded and used by the current owner. Probably have to unfuck some of that for your own purposes.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
Just do not forget anything aged still ages even with LOW miles - suspension rubber components if replaced with OEM are Expensive - Ask me how I know.

Looks like the guy took care of it! 23k is pretty steep though for a 20 year old truck.

I paid 24K for a 06 DC SR5 in May. Timberland Mica with matching SnugTop. KO3's with a standard lift. Purchased from a Toyota dealer who replaced timing belt, water pump, all fluids, battery, serpentine. 3 owner vehicle.

So no, not crazy. It's what I failed to find in over 18 months of searching. I'm happy.

I bought my 06 DC 4wd for 23k in 2007. No way I would rebuy it today at that price. I still have it and drive weekly. My 19 DC that I also bought new is a much better at being a truck, way more power, better shifting, better interior, more room up front, hauls better, carries better. The only negative is that it is slightly harder to park due to size, but I live rural so rarely deal with that.

I legit just missed out on a 2004 Limited DC 1GT with 115Kmiles up in the PNW. Was working with the dealer and a guy swooped in and bought it. Price was steep at $25grand, but it was mint and now I'm looking again.

Oh hell no. Put aside all the "best gen" bullshit and in the end it's a 20 year old well maintained truck.

If you buy this truck at 23k and it get major hail damage the next day it will be totaled out and you will be written a check for 60% less than you just paid for it.

Take the truck for a test drive over to one of these auto auctions or to Carvana and see what they would give you.

I hope insurance will cover the value paid. That’s insane. I paid $27,500 for a new 02 4x4 AC Tundra so I know it’s gotta be in the low $30k+ new in 05.

It kinda hurts to realize we hit peak truck only 20 years ago. No screens, no nannies, and built to last, instead of built to replace.

At least if it stays mint by 2030, you can register it as a “classic” and get it insured for the full appraisal value. Only downside are typically the limitations and cost of the insurance.

I had a 2015 F250 6.2 work truck with no screens, yes it has traction control, and it was a great truck. One of my concrete contractors has the exact same truck that he uses hard every day and is at 220k the last time I talked to him. Never let him down. Hard to explain that.

Yeah, our State requirements suck but in my po-punk-u county I might get by with driving during the week.

Love my 04 DC LTD but no way I’d pay $25 K for it and it’s in much better shape, especially the frame and paint job.

Bring a trailer can get a good deal at times. Hell I almost won a 2021 Shelby GT500. My cap was 70k and it went for 71500.00. Around here, those start at 78k for a beat to shit 2020 with 50k miles.

That's how I wound up with my Roush. Did I really need the Shelby? No. It was a want. I saved 24k dollars and have just as much fun.

I guess it's worth what people will pay. There truly isn't anything special about these trucks. At least not overpaying 10k dollars.

Apples to apples, it wouldn't last 23 years either at max GVWR every day.
