2019 tundra sr5 with 112,000 miles. Went to to the mountains of deep creek lake for the 4th as we do every year. We decided to look at property while here and went to a neighborhood that was a half mile straight up hill……got to the top and had a strong smell of burning rubber coming from the engine bay. I popped the hood and couldn’t see anything obvious…..I got my serpentine belt replaced about 20k miles ago and it looks fine. Brakes were replaced 5k miles ago. Any ideas on what I should look for? Has me a bit worried

I'll bet your transmission got real warm going up that hill with all the slipping in the torque converter.

I was just gonna say his transmission, especially those years not having a cooler.

I would agree with the above. I followed an 18 wheeler during heavy LA traffic and had a burning rubber smell, plus slipage. and I have a cooler.

Damn ok. Well I have the Hayden cooler and all the parts sitting in my garage. I guess I will install it asap and do a drain and fill of the fluid while I am at it

Do you have any minor oil leaks on the engine? Oil and rubber both smell similar when hot... both a little sulphury. I get the stench of burning oil when my engine is hot because I have a small leak that I can't get fixed.

No not even the slightest leak I can find…..I change my own oil and clean up well everytime. I can’t see any obvious signs of a leaks
