Today may be the day lakes get filled. Kerrville is wiped out and the Guadalupe is raging.

I saw lost of barrels and wheels and tires, and a couple docks. No cabins, though. Had my tow strap to hook it, just in case.

Helluva way to break our three-year long drought, that's for sure.

This is how it goes. I wouldn’t call it a pattern but it definitely happens this way. We go dry for a few years and then one or two big storms hit and everything gets filled.

Yeah. This is the biggest since '02 as I recall. That year my little spring-fed creek rose over 35 ft in as many minutes. And there's usually so little water in it that it doesn't even flow except in heavy rainfall. Normally just stays a pond where the springs are. In '02 I got 8" of rain over three days, then got 3" on top of that in about half an hour. Our thin soil layer over limestone in this part of the Hill Country just can't soak up much of that rain.

Canyon Lake was only 47% capacity before yesterday. Bet it's gonna be near full after this.

There's a flood of some proportion somewhere in Texas every year. Hasn't been one like this for a long time. I think this one is an all-time record for Kerrville and along the Guadalupe.

I know 4-5 years ago it was llano where the river had quit flowing and then we got a belly washer and flooded out marble falls and burnet. Few years before that it was new braunfels. Few years before that it was San Marcos. It’s about every 3-5yrs something like this occurs here. I’ve seen lake Travis so low they swore it would never be full again and the next year they were opening the flood gates. Wash rinse and repeat.

Not trying to downplay the tragedy. It’s terrible when this happens.

The missing kids is a tragedy. I used to be a BSA with the boyscouts for many years and safety was our paramount. We had a similar situation at Garner state park many years back and we decided to evacuate all kids before getting hit by a big rain and possible flood. It was a false alarm but better safe than sorry. When you're the custodian of so many kids safety should be #1 priority. I really pray these kids will be ok.

Just drove over to Llano river, it is very pissed off right now. Lots of trash and debris in the water. A lot of it is obviously parts of homes, barns and fencing. It's a disaster out here. I'm on Buchanan and we are waiting on the water to arrive. No risk to us personally, but plenty of people are worried. Stay safe.

My good friend and neighbor is with LEOs in Kerr County. He's been in the area there since yesterday afternoon, once he could get there by road. He just sent me this report. Damn, it's heartbreaking...

"Water is going down and they are finding bodies all over. We take them, do preliminary processing take pics attempt to ID based on what we know. Then throw them in the bed of my truck like they are garbage and drive them to the funeral home, unload them, wash rinse repeat."

Going to be available to him to help him deal with this. Never know exactly how to help, but this young man is going to be traumatized.

This was down town Georgetown this morning. San Gabriel was raging and at the time it hadn’t peaked yet. They eventually evacuated parts of the city.
