Any idea why my AC blower motors keep going bad?

edit: I posted this in the wrong forum, sorry. My truck is not a TRD Pro (unfortunately)

Hello all- I have a 2014 Tundra with >160k miles, and am currently on my 2nd replacement (so 3rd overall) AC blower motor (OEM).

The AC blows ice cold, but it blows soft. Much softer than it used to. When I replace the motor with a new one, everything works fine for the first 5 or 6 months, then it eventually goes back to blowing too soft.

Weirdly enough, on this 3rd blower motor, earlier this year I simply unplugged and then replugged the wiring, and it worked fine for the past 5 months, but now it’s back to blowing too soft with a quiet but audible whirring sound.

Any idea what the hell is going on? Could the wiring underneath the dash be faulty? Do I need to do something special before swapping out the motors (such as, idk turn the AC setting knobs to a certain setting)? Quick searching shows that usually when AC is blowing too soft, it’s a bad resistor, but the Toyota blower motors come with the resistor built in.

I've had this happen once w/a Napa replacement I used once in my '08, but haven't seen or heard of this from OE toyota motors. Are you purchasing from a genuine Toyota parts dealer/distributor or are you ordering off of ebay/Amazon?? Not always, but there have been non-OE parts being sold, bagged and tagged as authentic OE parts from some vendors...

Something else to try is that many of us have switched over to a brushless HVAC motor out of Lexus/Land Cruiser products. There's a couple of different part #s that folks are using, but I installed an OE #87103-60560 in my '21 for increased air flow and slightly quieter operation. Maybe switching over to something like that might help :notsure:

If you catch a sale at Fred Anderson or one of the other reputable online vendors during their 25% plus free shipping sales, you should be able to pick up the above part # at about $110 shipped!!!

I am buying from places that at least advertise and package their products as OEM; I have bought from Toyota Parts Deals and have had a dealership ship me out one.

someone recommended the blower for the Landcruiser and I went ahead and bought it. I’m assuming it’ll work with my 2014, as in the thread suggesting it, the OP had a 2016 Tundra. But my 2014 uses the same blower motor as all Tundra models up to ‘21, so I’m pretty confident the Landcruiser blower motor will be compatible with my truck.
