I’d use caution with the rear window defroster; 4Runners with the same type roll down window are notorious for shattered rear windows after using the defrost. Something like a stuck relay that never shuts off power, it gets to hot and shatters.

This is a diy cap I built 2 years ago. 3/4" steel frame with Aluminum Composite panels for the walls.

Not sure on your experience level, but im a beginner welder taught from youtube and I was able to build this thing and it has been seriously incredible! Cost me about $2k to build and another 1k for the interior and solar and all that other stuff. It was insanely fun to build and I learned a lot.

Yeah, my AC has defrosting side mirrors and when you need it, especially waking up in the morning in the mountains, after camping, and needing to drive off and your mirrors have condensate all over them, it'll clear 'em in 1-2 minutes. I never understood or thought I'd appreciate that feature as much as I do. I rarely use it, but when you need it, it beats the hell out of wiping the mirrors only to end up with both condensate and water drops.

Thanks for sharing. Ive been craving a camper, likely a pop up, for some time now. But dang it's hard to find the perfect one. Especially used.

Thats why I ended up building my own. Not only did I save a ton of money, but I made it mostly exactly how I wanted it and gave myself pop out windows which was the smartest decision ever. Cant imagine having a camper without pop out windows after having these!

Also so many pop up campers have the cab over style sleeping area. But our truck beds are long enough that you can sleep down below. Mine is setup so I sleep on a raised platform, but in the bed not up top in the tent area. Makes it so I can have it down (not popped up) when im sleeping. Either because of windy weather or trying to stay inconspicuous!

I made lots of trips to big bend when I was in college and went thru to LA one time. I was always getting pulled out of the truck and searched. We were camping so we always looked like hobos and it didn't help that I was driving a 90 suburban with a 2x6 for a rear bumper. It was rare for us to go thru a checkpoint and not have to get out.

I went thru the i10 checkpoint east of El Paso and the dude just asked if I was a citizen and if I was alone in the truck, then waved me on. He didn't even look at my ID when I tried to hand it to him.

I suspect they get so good at reading people they know when to look at the ID and when not to.

    ***

Today I cleaned out the truck a bit and in doing so, discovered I had some 12 pairs of socks in the back seat. My feet sweat so much I change my socks after every yard we mow. I forget how many socks are in there / get used so I keep putting socks in. Eventually ALL my socks end up in the back of the truck. Those 12 pairs are in the washer now as everything in the truck has a light coat of cut grass on it.

I like this idea. I've been trying to think of something to do with the dumb drink tray forever. Not what I'd want, but I like where his head is at.

I had planned to put my coms there. But ended up going with a handheld instead.

That drink tray, along with the ashtray, are two things we never use.....well I guess we never use the cigarette lighter, which doesn't seem to work anyway.

I’ve been working on a setup where I put the Qi charger in the pad just below, in front of the other cup holders. I’d love to just put my phone down and not plug it in. I’m thinking pull power from one of the cigarette lighters on the side and run an inverter to the usb plug for the charger. I’m curious how the other guy has people set it up.

Well my transmission is on it's way out. It's the A340, the Tacoma transmission. Shifting hard when O/D is on.

Gamble on a rebuild from online, or take it to a specialist? I'm not real hip on the idea of going to a shop that advertises an "awesome warranty".

Oh no, those weren't worn....each pair I wear (and take off after each yard) go up front into the passenger-side floorboard. Those are removed each evening when we get back. Those go onto the back porch when we put up the gear and go right into the washer. We wash our work clothes at the end of each day. So the socks I took out today were all clean, just had that coating of dried grass---dust on them.

I bought a new style of sock that really does seem to "wisk away" moisture much better. The new style I'll wear for work and the older style (what I took out today) will be what I wear around the house and when I'm not out mowing.

    Specialist has a warranty.

this dude drops nuggets of gold in his videos, he doesnt have an a340 vid, at least the last time i looked, but he’s given me enough confidence i’ll give mine a try, before taking it to a pro when i eff it up, lol.

I really like this guy's videos. He doesn't ever have a build video though, just teardowns. He sounds knowledeable, I just don't know anything about automatic transmissions.

His videos help me go to sleep for some odd reason

Might be worth looking into the Transgo rebuild and shift kits. But I'd be lying if I said I knew shit about trannies

The stupid part about this is, and I've said this several times on this forum, but the 4l60E had several inherent design flaws, of which were made clear to GM early on, but they never bothered to address. The stupid part about it is, the 4l80E lacked a lot of those problems.

It's always been my undersanding the 4l60E was intended as the electronic rebuild of the 700R4, which was pretty damn solid as far as transmissions go. Somehow, it ended up being half (or a fraction) as reliable as the 700R4. It's baffling.

I hit 82,500 miles today in the truck. I put in more miles in the last 10 days than I did in the last year, but I got my move done and the Tundra was up for the work.

Have the right tools, and a clean place take your time, and can be done.
    I rebuilt a 400 turbo, and 350 turbo Years.
They ran good for years, but Not really interested in doing another. They were a pain.
EDIT: we had all the detailed shop manuals in our shop though so was able to do it step by step.
