Looks like it's still so early that there's not much new info. Just that they believe the guy started the fire, ambushed the FD, and then they found him dead but had to recover the body in a rush due to the fire.

I just know this is going to get completely blown out of proportion and turned into some 2A debate. Which is ridiculous, because something like this happens due to someone being absolutely out of their mind, not due to access to firearms. IMO

 

Any shooting always gets pushed into that space and spun to fit the narrative of "guns bad." I hate it. I especially hate it because then that becomes the topic rather than trying to help and comfort the victim's and their families.

This one took a special kind of evil though. To lure in people who actively serve the community and do good in the world as their occupation is truly sick. As much as I disagree with the nut jobs and think they should be put down, I can at least understand their warped view when they ambush police. They're effing nuts, but at least there's some twisted view that can be understood while being condemned. But firefighters? What the actual hell? Firefighters NEVER hurt anyone. They are always the good guys. Even a guy who is a prick on a fire crew is doing good by fighting a fire and providing emergency services. There is no way I can understand it.

 

Agreed. I have the good fortune of being close friends with two cops that have nothing but upstanding character, but there are some asshole out there. This whole thing jogged my memory, my buddy's dad is a fire chief in Oakland, CA, and I believe they had to get fitted for bullet proof vests like five or six years ago now. Not sure if they're wearing them full time, but I think people there were taking shots at firemen as well.

 

Most LEOs are good, even the stern ones. There are bad ones, and nobody hates them more than the good ones. It's almost like LEOs are *gasp* people!

The firefighter's though.... they aren't ever showing up and ruining your day, even if you are an asshole. Unless you park in front of a hydrant, but that's on you.

I get to deal with the truckers that show up here between 5am & 7:30am.

All of them are super nice. hard working.

some are way more knowledgeable (seasoned) than others...sure.

but they are all out there working.

and they showed up early and wanted directions on how to find receiving. ( we open @ 7:30am. )


the slavic drivers, usually new to the game, are generally the nicest.



now, out in the wild...err...east houston. the truckers that are on the road include a mix of Mexican truckers. usually rolling dirty.

you have to avoid those trucks like the plague.




*we deal with ~20 trucks a day. usually flatbed loads.

This is why the sit on top kayaks scare the crap out of me. It put's your CG way up high and I feel like they are less stable. I have a nice 12' sit in kayak and it's so stable I can stand in it.
