We caught a call like this a few weekends ago. Residential neighborhood, 25-35 mph zone at most, dude on a bagger with no lid hits the curb and rolls it it doing maybe 60-70 per witnesses. EMS took 2 of my guys, one driving, one in the back with them. Not a real high chance of survival based on injuries. Sucks for the family either way.

After losing a loved one, not much else usually matters. Unless it just didn't hit hard, or hasn't sunk in.

 

What kept it from a higher score for you?

 

The river scene is actually historically accurate. He had holes all through his coat but was miraculously not hit.

I agree with the endless magazines, but it's also a product of it's time.

In my younger years, on a guys trip to the DR, we "rented" motorcycles from a group of locals to ride around the island for the day. We had a great but sketchy time, and on our way back to the cruise port, I was thinking maybe I should get a bike when I get back home? No less than a minute later I hear tires screeching and a big crash behind me.

Now, I'm 2nd in our group of 6 so I slam on my brakes and turn around thinking Oh F one of my buddies just got hit, thankfully it was no one in our group, but what I did see was a smashed car, a crushed bike, and the motorcyclist lying on the ground with a pool of blood around his head. I don't know if that guy died, but at the very least he was SERIOUSLY injured. After experiencing that, I wasn't interested in a motorcycle anymore.

 

The stuff I've watched on it (IIRC) had the journal accounts of those who were there and it really was just him yelling no and walking them down blasting. It's one of those things that falls into a miracle, IMO. By all rights he should have been cut down, but he walked through a rain of bullets completely unscathed.

 

Driving is the most dangerous thing most people ever do, but it's so common we don't think of it as such. Driving without all the armor of a car just drives home how dangerous it is. When there's nothing but you to take the hit you become way more aware and defensive... or you get dead.

I honestly think that motorcycle training/classes should be mandatory for getting a driver license. It makes you so much better at paying attention when you feel vulnerable.

The shootout at the OK Corral didn't quite go down as shown in the movie, so it is at its heart just an action movie that is loosely inspired by real life events. Your rating will stand if you go digging.

The biggest thing is whether or not you enjoyed the ride, and there's no right or wrong answer there. It's purely subjective.

 

Remind me to never watch a movie with you. I step out of reality and try to live in the story being told. It doesn't always work, as some stuff defies the suspension of disbelief, but those kinds of prop errors I can usually avoid noticing.

 

Yeah, IDK. I'd chalk it up to shock or just going through the motions.

 

They might just be sociopaths seeking attention as well. IDK about you, but when I go through a devastating loss I am not posting to a public thing like FB. I let people in my life know, but I don't just toss it out there.

I didn't post about losing Stella in the dog thread for months. I told you guys here, because it's a smaller and closer group. I don't understand blasting everything on FB where the whole world sees it.

 

I'm with you on this, watching an action flic is usually a welcome departure from reality and is needed sometimes without breaking down the realism. One thing that irks me sometimes though is when somebody gets blasted with a shotgun at close range, and they end up flying back off their feet like 10 feet in the air.

 

Shock
