Nope, Texas Arkansas and Mississippi all add a cool 150-dollar registration fee for all Plug ins and 75 dollars for a Hybrid. The Big Beautiful Bill will add an additional 150 and 75 to these fees. Claiming they are losing Tax Revenue for not as much gas being purchased. Which is BS since the savings are nowhere near that for gas to electric.

I already have one a Hybrid Tundra- my registration fee for a year is $78 bucks. It will double under the Big Beautiful Bill.

I don’t disagree a bit. My 2019 SR5 is still around but it’s a dedicated work truck and it’s ugly inside and out. Cigarette burns. Scratched and dented. It won’t even be a wholesale truck when I get rid of it, one of my guys will buy from me on the cheap I’m sure. My 2017 Limited was showing its age somewhat inside but was getting ugly underneath, as that’s my work/family truck and what I used to drag my snowmobile trailer all over the rust belt and up to Ontario or Quebec a few times every winter. Plus, I depreciate my trucks for taxes and both were/are past the point of any financial tax benefit, so the time had long ago come for the 2017 and is right now for the 2019 re:tax purposes. In the fall, I’ll grab whatever NA gas V8 work truck is the best deal with whatever incentives are available at the time and see what happens until I’m in the market again. 5-6 years and 150Kish miles is my general window of ownership so I’m absorbing plenty of risk past the powertrain warranty on any of the choices.

not really, a 5 year 125K extended warranty is cheap

I don't really think reliability comes into play much for 5 years 150K miles IMO, I think your overblowing the risk on these trucks for that use profile, especially given the GM purchase

Only because I don't feel like starting a separate thread about it, and since it was a screenshot of my post on FB that started this one, here's the update in case anyone is wondering.

FINALLY got a call back from the dealer this afternoon after calling and asking to speak with another service writer or the service manager... Another writer took my info and said he would have my service writer call me "hopefully within the hour". Plot twist, it wasn't within the hour. The llast contact with the dealer was yesterday morning, where I was told I would get a call yesterday afternoon with an update and info about getting a loaner... Today's call included nothing along the lines of "hey sorry I didn't call you back yesterday" or "sorry for not returning your call this morning". It was "hi just wanted to give you an update on your truck". A lot of typical dealer service department "up talking", but essentially "engineers" (aka dealer tech rep) came to look at the truck this morning, and they require 24-48 hours to "figure out what is going on and what they are going to do with the repair". I was also told that it was up to them to decide whether or not this repair qualifies for a loaner (also 24-48 hours after their visit), and the loaner would come from Toyota corporate as "dealers don't have loaner cars".

I followed up with a call to Toyota's customer care, as I started a case with them this morning when I couldn't get the dealer to call me back. A very polite lady jotted down my concerns and told me that she couldn't advise whether the 24-48 hour timeline was normal or not, but that if I go "2 business days" without the dealer calling me back I should call the customer care number and let them know. She also added that the dealer technically doesn't have to provide a loaner until they can confirm the loaner will be covered by the repair and that the repair is being covered under warranty.

Man, I’m sorry. I wonder if you can get your truck towed to another more reputable or higher volume dealer in your area at all?

So this is a fairly high volume dealer, they have 3 Toyota stores, and their umbrella has 66 dealerships across 24 brands in our area. Ironically enough, our region is Central Atlantic Toyota, who's headquarters are only about 10 minutes from my house (closer than this dealer is)... Maybe I'll just pop over and see if I can speak with someone in person there

Yeah that honestly might be your best bet. I would make them do anything and everything for you especially how new your truck is. I would be on corporate every day demanding answers and a loaner as well as expressing to them how this inconvenience impacts your job as well as your family. Or maybe that’s just me with my experiences with military VA reps haha. I’m really sorry about your situation though man. Definitely wanting to hear more as time goes on

I must have missed where they determined debris was the cause of this particular failure. Can someone point me to that?

We do not have the cause yet. Best case scenario, it’s the debris issue. That one is known and being dealt with. Worst case, some new failure that is another possible cause outside of the known issues. Not comforting to owners. We do not hear about turbo failures anymore, Toyota was able to root that out and now that is not a concern. Surely they can get this engine issue figured out as well.

    Not specifically my engine...

I had what started as a very quiet tick at idle (almost like an exhaust heat shield rattle) that over the course of about a 10 mile drive turned into stumbling <2000rpm on the highway, massive loss of power, and horrible sounds at idle (along with surging idle oil pressures, never high and never low, but constantly moving) and revving up to 800-1000rpm caused a HELL of a racket from the engine.

No CEL, no warning messages, no external fluid leak, nada

This is just above idle RPM - video link (it won't insert a short apparently)

Warranty or not, I sure do miss the good 'ol days when a dealer would just toss you the keys to one of their demos to drive until your vehicle was fixed.

I think a lot of this recent "no loaner" bullshit is due to us consumers simply allowing them to get away with this poor service over time. You can bet the GSM, principal, etc. are driving a different demo every week though.

Awesome, looks like I'll be on the phone with their service manager in the morning... Reading the reviews left for the service manager and parts & service director on their website instills absolutely no confidence, as all their reviews are 1 star.

For all of those following along in the future and looking back at this, the vehicle is at Heritage Toyota of Catonsville (Maryland)

Or sheer volume of vehicle problems in general has created a shortage of loaners available. Good ole days Toyota didn't have this this scale of a problem. Completely talking out my booty here and can't cite a single thing. Don't ask! :)
