So recently just purchased my Tundra, and now I am being told that the engine sound, which is very similar to a V8, is freaking artificial and being pumped through the speakers? Is this true?

If so, super disappointed that Toyota would do this. And if it is true, what does the truck sound like without it?

if you have the JBL system then yes its true. you can disable it pretty easily. get the carista app and a bluetooth odb dongle. there is a setting to disable. search the forums for the setting name and other changes you can make while your in there. Also toyota isn't the only manufacturer doing this unfortunately.

its augmented sound from the engine, not fake v8.

I dont care for it at all and turned it off right away, it was obnoxious while towing, etc, didnt seem to match the RPMs ,etc

you can turn it off with carista

why is that so disappointing, you either like the way it sounds and leave it, or turn it off if you dont.

Did you think a little piss ant 3.4 would sound like a 350 or something?

@Toklas well thank you for the confirmation, I will be getting it turned off as soon as possible.

csmobley. Yes it is true. sorry. Mine does not have this and like all things you don't notice it after a time. Seems like I have seen on here something about aftermarket exhaust that change the sound of the engine. Others can chime in on this.

Fake engine noise is used across almost every manufacturer and product line. Even my M4 has it. I turned it off in both my Tundra and M4 and couldn’t be happier. Easy fix with Carista for the Toyota.

@Breathing Borla no I did not expect the v8 sound from a v6, as I have owned Tacomas and 4Runners in the past with exhausts on them and they sound like garbage. I was quiet happy that it sounded the way it did thinking that it sounded that way outside the truck. Disappointed that it doesn't actually sound that way because to me, and this is just my opinion, Toyota should have never gotten rid of the V8 to begin with. They could have paired the V8 with a better transmission and fuel economy probably would have gotten a little better. Coming from a 2021 Tundra with the V8, I am getting roughly the same fuel economy in the 2025.

Just an annoying feature that in my opinion Toyota should not have added. That's all, and I was just trying to confirm if it was true or not.

@Observer well this truck has the upgraded exhaust, but I have never listened to it in a drive by so I don't actually know what it sounds like lol.

it was not MPG that was the demise of the 5.7, it was emissions.

They did pair it with a 8 speed in the LC and it didn't improve much, you can't gear the top gear ratios much lower than it already was with a NA gasser.

I don't really care about MPG in a truck, but my 23 is WAY better than my 2016 5.7.

But more importantly, it tows, hauls, and rides much much better, not just the powertrain, but the entire platform.

but ya, its going to sound like shit on the outside of the truck, I don't mind how quiet mine is OEM given this tiny motor,

Why does it matter? By disabling you're not going to hear much if any engine noise so if that's your objective then you'll be happy.

@Breathing Borla all very good points. I also don't care about fuel economy. I am just a car enthusiast, hence the reason I appreciate the larger motors. I almost purchased a GMC Denali just for that reason alone, that GM still offers a V8, but I didn't want to the build quality of a GM. I work in the industry, and I honestly haven't had a lot of time to explore all the features of this truck, and I don't mind quiet vehicles. Almost prefer them, I just got a little indifferent by the fact that this has the TRD Pro exhaust, so I did in fact think that the sound inside was close to what it sounds like outside. I was perplexed because I wondered how they could make a V6 have such a throaty sound.

It all makes sense now of course. Can't beat the sound of a built 2JZ though! One of the best sounding engines in the world, along with an R34.

Nonetheless, I will have it turned off and just be happy with the truck, it is after all, incredibly refined compared to the 2nd gen. I haven't towed with it yet, but will be soon, when I get my boat.

@DFS Honestly it doesn't matter, it's just my preference to not have some fake noise being pumped into my truck. Guess I should think twice before posting something asking for someone else's input on a matter, as it sounds like it might have triggered something by asking about it. Wasn't trying to get anyone riled up this early in the day, just felt like this forum was a good source of information, and being that I have only had the truck for a couple of months, I don't know a ton about it yet.

My 23 SR5 didn’t have it and now my 25 1794 does. Honestly , after 4 months of driving I don’t even notice it very often.
Of course adding the Beatsonic amp last week drowns it out anyways.:)

Tundra is worlds quieter. M4 has less fake crackle and pops. I prefer both without the augmented soundtrack.
