I've made a handful of 3D printed useful parts for my rig so far. I dabble with modeling software at work a good bit and decided to get a 3D printer last year. Combine this with an engineering background and a love for my Tundra, and I start making stuff for it.

This is just an interest post more or less. I'm thinking about starting a thread in the marketplace forum with an order form and all. I've really liked following what @RainMan_PNW has done. I've tried creating things that either I thought were too expensive to buy out there or wasn't to my liking. There's a lot of potential in my designs for more but I'll have to add over time. All of my current designs are 100% reversible and no drilling or modifying any factory pieces need to be done (some might need to be removed to fit my things but no destructive modifications need to be done).

All these are my own designs and I created them out of needs I thought I may have. I'd come up with reasonable prices and as quick turn around as I could. I've got more ideas but below is what I've created so far. Please respond with your interest and I'll see what I get then take it from there!

    Universal center console insert

    • 3 pieces come with this one - the back cover for the opening from the factory wireless charger, the large square"ish" insert that fits nicely in the opening center console area then a snap in "insert" (the white piece below)
    • The insert is shown with a MagSafe wireless charger that my phone snaps right to and charges every time
    • This insert would be customizable (think for adding switches, a shallow cubby, etc)
    • There is a cutout on the back cover for the wireless charger gap where you can run wiring (for the charger, switches, etc)
    • The large square piece and plastic insert are printed with PETG and back cover is TPU - all materials are acceptable in vehicles - I've had my prototype installed for a couple months now and no warping or anything in direct sunlight
    • Different colors could be decided and more features added in time
    • Nice "TUNDRA" detailing to match the style around the rig (could be an optional text there for customization one day)

    Top center tray replacement

    • This technically has 3 pieces as well - the bottom piece in the model view is split in 2 (limitations of my printer bed size) then the top is mainly there as an insert for future additions and it has the 2 arms that reach out and help hold the 2 bottom pieces together at the split
    • The bottom is TPU and top is PETG - bottom is TPU to be flexible for installation and to not scratch up the trim of the truck and top is PETG for rigidity for mounting anything else
    • This replaces the top tray cavity
    • I re-purposed the 12V wiring for that cigarette plug for my wireless charger but I could add a USB connector to snap into my piece
    • This was my most difficult one to reverse engineer because that tray piece from factory was more complex than I thought
    • I have an idea to add switches at this location that could be retracted inside the cavity when not needed (think sunglasses holder technology lol)
    • Also thought I could put slots in that PETG piece and it could be like the infamous Bulletpoint insert that most people have but mine would be less expensive and more modular (also non-destructive to that tray for having to drill their mount)
    • Don't get caught up in the blue PETG piece below... I had extra material and was testing and that one was the one that worked. That would be a different color for sure. Also, yes, my truck is filthy...

Center arm rest wireless charger insert

    • This is another wireless charger solution for this (what I think is useless) space from factory
    • I was going to just get a non-slip mat for this to put stuff but I wanted to do something with it
    • It's got just enough drop to put an insert where you could hide a MagSafe style charger - which is just what I did
    • You still retain the original sliding that back into the top trim piece to access inside the console so no issues or compromising there
    • This is just one piece and printed with TPU for nice texturing when placing other stuff on it and flexibility for installation
    • The top is unassuming (for now...) and if you flip it over you see where the wireless charger and wire would route
    • The wire can route through the center console area without disassembly - but some fishing the wire is involved (might have a video on this if it's popular enough)

    Bed lighting switch holder

    • Just a simple holder for the switch that comes with the Matt Gecko bed lighting kit
    • This one is just one piece and printed out of PETG for strength and rigidity
    • The switch installed in the lower hole and there is enough depth for wiring and switch body
    • The top hole is through and the back has a depression for a nut for a close mount up against the truck bed body
    • This is designed to be installed on the back side of the dropped rail (mine is dropped for the bed cover that I got from factory)
    • This allows anything to slide past it on the railing system without interference and you don't have to drill into the bed to mount anything
    • Don't worry about the "clear" filament I used for this - again it's another that I had on hand to mess around with and this one was the one that came out right after tweaking

Really nice work! The center arm rest charger is great since you can still store keys/wallet in that area, with the part in there. I like putting stuff in the front center console area so I’d lean toward the arm rest charger myself, but everyone uses their truck differently.

I wonder if there’s a way you could print a gusset for the seat plastic to avoid the classic 3rd gen crack. Mines been cracked since I bought it. Have a warranty but haven’t bothered getting it fixed since it’ll likely just break again and I really don’t care about that.

I’d also experiment with ASA for the upper console charger. I had a PETG widdle wadder up there for a few months and it got super warped from UV exposure. Summer should be a good time to stress test that guy if it’s printed out of PETG/PLA.

I like the center armrest insert for a wireless mag charger. I would purchase this.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like there is some interest here so I'll get these pieces in "production" state and post in the marketplace soon.

I'm also open for anyone's suggestions on how to improve on any of what I have or if there are other ideas for things we could use in our trucks.

Thanks Chris, great idea with suggestion on the ASA. I've heard of this filament but haven't tried printing in it yet. I did read it's more resistant for UV and weather exposure than PETG so I'll definitely give that a try. TBH, that top tray insert usually doesn't bake in the sun as I have a sunshade I usually use so that might be why it hasn't warped yet. I'll try that piece in ASA soon. Just bought a roll of filament and will reprint in that.

I have a Vantrue N4 dashcam installed (4 cameras; front, rear and inside front/rear) and printed this to hang the rear camera from the weatherstripping above the rear window. Not sure how much I like it as it's not as stable as I'd like, but it holds well enough:
    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6179148

I altered the model a bit to make the lower part longer and use a rounded rectangle to better fit the Vantrue's rear camera. If anyone's interested I could upload my changes.

Some great designs you have. Could you design a door for the rear storage tray on the center console lid?

This one commonly found online is made from really poor materials and doesn't conform to the interior plastics well.

Let me clarify that those are not my designs. With 3D printing it's very common to share the model files, and sometimes make tweaks to them. All of those were someone else's work, and the links are to their models.

That door looks like a much more complicated model, as it needs reliable hinges and a catch of some sort. That and a way to fix it to the existing tray in the armrest. That's outside my range of talent!

That said, I've never liked anything that stowed items in a hinge-up cubby like that. Mainly because the items in holders like that tend to shift around enough to end up coming sliding out when it's hinged up again. This is a bad plan because you're then at risk of taking your eyes off the road trying to figure out where all the damned stuff just went... Or worse, pulling a damned muscle in your neck/shoulder trying to reach for it... Those of you older will know the pain I'm talkin' about!

    Understood.

That cover just attaches with double sided tape to the existing bin. Doesn't make much sense to have an open bin on the back of the console lid. You cannot use if for storage at all.

Would be nice just to have a hinged lid of some sort on there. Or even just a cover for the bin with a slot cut for napkins or tissues. Just something to make use out of the space.

I don't know if you were asking me or Bill but I can look into it. I was thinking about other ways to use that space you pointed out.

I'm new to owning a Tundra, so I don't know which models have what options. But I seem to recall other trim levels had a different armrest setup. It's on my 'to-do' list to figure out what kind of swaps are possible.

All good. I was gauging interest in some of the designs I had. Sounds like enough interest to move forward.
