Sometimes I question if no vehicle is better than my current daily driver. Positive: the kids first car will be well sorted out before they get the keys, and I can confirm the shit box is still nicer than my own first vehicle.

I would be very hard pressed to get another vehicle, the bus she hates, and she hates Rey's truck, and she hates the other customer truck in the shop

When I got the bus home she said she would park the Hilux in the bus then push it off a cliff

I’ve found that 3 vehicles is a good number. Nice to have a back up when the primary goes down. That’s assuming the back up is also running which it generally isn’t because a project vehicle is never done.

I would except Texas doesn't allow you to drive them on the street. Even if it's plated in a different state. It's some BS for sure. If they did, I'd use it for 90% of my daily running around as I'm rarely more than 2 miles from home.

Agreed. We starting getting that a couple of years ago, and it usually ramps up around 4th of July. Obnoxious and pointless, IMO. I almost installed dumps on the truck just so I could give ‘em taste of raucous power at a stop light but thought better of it. Luckily, it has become less popular lately.

    Yeah...but it's a dry heat!!!
While I kinda say that in jest it really does make a difference.
105 here in south Texas is F'n Brutal being on the coast!!!
Temps that high with 90% humidity ain't no fun or a joke!!!
Especially with the dead calm wind in the Hotter Months!!

You can drive SxSides on the road in some parts of Texas.
Just depends on where you do it.
Along beachfront communities and other like places you can.
You just have to obey the speed limits.
If you haul ass they're gonna definitely tie you up and haul your shit to the impound lot!!!

Unfortunately in Georgetown you can't. Now, they don't seem to bother you retirees on your golf carts but us younger folks on our sxs is different. I think it's age discrimination or jealousy personally.

Anyone else seem to constantly have issues getting a proper suspension alignment? Seems I've been battling this since I bought the truck in '09.

Camburg UCA's with a ton of caster plus green=good techs lead me to get frustrated and just drive with a pull for a few years until I get into the front end and start all over again...

    :end rant

I agree, going through a similar situation. Lowered the truck and went back to the alignment shop I've been to before mom/pop/local shop and in that time they were bought out by "Big Brand Tire". Few new techs etc...Get my truck back and they try and pass the alignment off as complete, hand me the sheet, only toe adjusted, didn't touch camber and blamed the new techs since being bought out. Been driving around drift truck status for months now..

Tie rods are good, new LCA, Cam tabs, and LCA eccentric bolts. UCA rebuilt a couple months ago, coilovers fresh charged and bearings tight.

I mean like they literally can't get the caster dialed in. The shop I just used had an awesome alignment guy last time. Now either they are clueless or their equipment is out of calibration. Going from 10 deg to 5 deg of caster on the right side should drastically change how it drives. Left shows 8 deg. One should pull right one should pull left.

    Toe and camber are dialed.

*Edit I've heard good things about Wanderlust Overland in Oregon City, may need to schedule in there when we get back from our trip.

    Many on the way.
Are your LCAs stock? The rear bushings in the lower control arms are of the compliance type. So perhaps they could be contributing? If you play with VWs you might know about these bushings. For the unfamiliar, these bushings have air spaces molded in that allow the bushing to move on the horizontal plane. When we hit a bump, the tire and arm can travel rearward slightly, this makes the ride better, but drops caster. It also creates under steer when loaded up, creating safer handling for the general public.

LCA are Moog stock replacements, not my #1 choice, but I needed something quick. So new Moog bushings pre-installed.

Plan is to everything rebuild the stock arms with urethane next time the truck is apart.

RatioTek shift kit showed up. $46.00 + freight and tax at my local transmission parts warehouse. I saw it maybe a little cheaper but also much more online, so $46 works for me. Plus, they could actually get it.

I spoke with them a little bit about the kit; they use a lot of RatioTek on Allisons, GM's, and a few other trucks but have zero experience with the AB60. The '-PRD' kit extension simply denotes 'no pan or valve body gaskets' so it should be the cheaper of the two kits. There's actually a note in the kit that explains it, along with 10 pages of instructions! I also asked about Sonnax Zip kits; they said that generally compared to RatioTek, Sonnax has more 'fix-it' parts, RatioTek is a shift kit. Judging by the box contents, that jives.

So what's included? Two drill bits, five springs, and whole lotta info.

I don't disagree, 85 degrees & 80+% sucks and is unacceptable (why I'll never voluntarily go to Miami or Hawaii ever again) but over 100 no matter what is also atrocious, it's been "cooler", last few days "only" 105 & it's still killing me.

Crisis averted. Stopped at discount tire to swap fronts and eliminate a tire pull. Turns out they have a new alignment rack and both techs were free. Dude knew Toyota front ends and got it dialed.

Looks like I'm just 50/50 for poor technicians..

@reywcms I will keep those guys in my pocket for next time!

I spent the first 170k miles on the factory alignment - no adjustment needed, even with some mild suspension changes. Tracked straight, rose smooth, no pulling.

I started getting funny tire wear and discovered worn outer tie rods. I had them replaced and have had a half dozen alignments since then, none of which have been great. All numbers green, but just not great. My drivetrain specialist buddy told me the only good alignment tech in the city works at the GM dealer. I might have to schedule an appointment. Possible something else is warn, but my other two vehicles are the same - multiple alignments - all green, none great.

Wonder how this would be used in conjunction with a Sonnax or Transgo kit.
I tried searching...if you have time could you scan the instructions and send a pdf?
