Hello. I've browsed a fair bit, for a while. Great advice I've found here. This is my 5th tundra. All my previous tundras were totally reliable work horses. I just recently got this truck... $10k 5.7L 4x4 SR5. 245,000 miles...
After a couples weeks I went out to start it, check engine light (4lo light, brakes etc), high idle at 1500rpm. Brought up code p2118, TACM.
Rodents nest in fuse box. Chewed through wires connecting to the slot/connector in the red square in the picture. That connector is not shown in the fuse diagram on the fuse box lid. Does anyone know what it's called? I did a temporary fix, but one of the wires was very short coming out underneath the connector (adaptor?). It got the truck out of limp mode and cleared the codes, smooth 30 mile drive home... but I'd like to do a better fix. And I dont have much money. I took it to a shop but they sucked... wasted $165 on a "diagnostic" where all they did was tell me what I already knew... "there's a rodents nest in the fuse box... could look at it more next Wednesday and bill you 3 hrs to do that plus whatever the cost to fix is." I told them about it before I had the truck towed there.... got it back on the road after working on it 2 hrs at O'Reilly's. Really don't want to pay a mechanic to do it if I can myself.
Im thinking I can find a fuse box online and just cut out that section I need? Keep the top clip intact, replace the slot in the fuse panel? I couldn't find the same wire size in O'Reilly it's gage 22 or maybe smaller... and there's maybe 1/2 centimeter long poking out underneath that i used 20 gage wire to reconconnect the wires. Not enough for me to feel super comfortable with it as a permanent or even long term temporary fix.
