Just ordered a new 2025 TRD Pro. Should I be putting premium gas in it?

My personal opinion is yes. I mean the thing has twin turbos on it.

Sure Toyota says 87 is ok but it pulls timing to adjust for the lower octane level.

Your truck, your call. You're dropping a premium for the PRO so might as well use premium in it :crapstorm:

The beauty of it is, it is tuned to run on regular ol 87 pump gas. So you get the option to run whatever you want. If it were me, I would likely run 87 most times. If towing or going into higher altitudes, I would probably opt for more octane.

Understanding that the TRD Pro has i-FORCE MAX 3.4-Liter Twin-Turbo V6 Hybrid, I will be picking up a 2025 SR5 CrewMax i-FORCE 3.4-Liter Twin-Turbo V6 in the next week or two.

This will be my first Toyota and first turbo...so the same logic that applies to the Hybrid apply to my engine? The engine is tuned to run on regular 87 pump gas, run 87 most times and when towing at higher altitudes opt for more octane?

Yes, same logic. You have the exact same engine as the OP. All TRD Pros are hybrids, but the engine itself is the same. Just added Hybrid bits.

I think I misread your question. I thought you were asking if the same logic of running higher octane for towing in general would be best, but I see you said "towing at higher altitudes" so I should clarify; higher octane has to be used to get the rated power out of the engine. It is tuned to function on 87, but it will pull timing to do so. Giving it 91 is recommended for ANY towing, regardless of elevation.

I've found it's just easier all around to run premium top tier all the time.

Say you fill your truck twice a month for 20 gallons each fill up. Even if premium is a dollar more per gallon that's only $40 a month difference. Is $40 going to make or break the monthly budget?

But, @GODZILLA says it will wreck the buildings much faster.....lol
If you are not in a premium state where gas price is outrageous, then go with 91 and forget about it.
Sure, 87 a few times when 91 isn't available isn't gonna wreck the engine, but if you have a habit of just dumping whatever shit in there, might wanna rethink that now....

I find it easiest to just run 91 all the time. It's also easier to find corn free in premium than it is the mid grade.

That's very true. I usually do Costco/Buckees/Shell (in that order of finding it) and if all three above fails, I go with blue brand, but that's usually just one tank.
87/89/91 are all readily available, except 89 which Costco deems it to be useless so they carry 87/91.

    Appreciate these replies.

So the engine is tuned for 87.
    When towing use 91.
Towing with 87 it will pull timing.
91 can be used full time.
    Purchase at reputable stations.

If pull timing means “Engine timing refers to the coordination of the opening and closing of the engine's valves in relation to the movement of the pistons. “ That sure sounds like something to avoid.

Is it fair to say using 91 is helpful in terms of turbo and engine longevity in the i-FORCE 3.4-Liter Twin-Turbo V6?

    Short answer: Yes. Use 91.

Running 91 has nothing to do with the longevity of your engine. The additives in your fuel do. Just use top tier fuel only and you’ll have the same longevity using 87 as you would 91. I only run 87 because that’s what Toyota tuned our trucks to run on. When I tow my boat this summer, I’m going to use 91 though.

Pulling timing refers to ignition timing, not valve timing.
I'm in the 91/92 non-ethanol all the time camp.

Looked into Top Tier fuels, at first thought this was referring to highly regarded/known brands….didn’t know “ Top Tier is recognized as a high-quality fuel performance standard”

Pulling timing is ignition, got it.

Here’s the gas cap on the Tundra I just picked up.
I’ll go with a Top Tier brand 87.
