Just bought a truck and the dealer sold me on two warranties and I’m wondering if I should cancel them.

    need some advice (Toyota warranties):

    1. 5 year 55000 maintenance warranty. $1300.00

    2. 8 year 75000 mile extended bumper to bumper. $1500

Did I get screwed here and should I cancel these? My thought process on the 5 year was that it was probably a wash financially. Essentially 3 years of maintenance for $1300. Not sure if my math, maths…

For the second, I was thinking with all the tech in these new trucks, it was probably worth it? But now I’m second guessing myself. The dealer said they are both prorated if I cancel.

    thoughts and or advice appreciated

I’d say that’s a pretty good deal. I got a 10 year / 125k mile bumper to bumper with a zero deductible warranty from Spencer at Oroville Toyota here in California for $2,070.

Reading through the warranty thread, looks like I’m shy 2 years and 25k miles. Since I bought the truck this afternoon, I think I can cancel and add one by one of the people mentioned on the thread?

Real curious about the maintenance warranty. Ends up being 3 years 30kmiles for $1300. How much is the spark plug replacement for these trucks? That’s at 45k. Thanks again

I don't think that covers spark plugs. It's just pre-paying for oil changes. Those oil changes are at 10,000 miles. Seems like a big rip off to me. You are basically paying $1300 for three oil changes.

I’m talking with Jerry. $1500 is cheap peace of mind if you can swing it.

for me, 5yr/125k@$990 is a steal.

um you do realize that the first 3 yrs of that is oem coverage, you are only getting 2yrs of ext warranty.

the ext warranty duration included but is not covered during the oem 3yr/36m coverage.

toyota vsa duration is based on in service date (usually the date you signed the paperwork) and starts the timer from that date, but doesnt go into effect until after the oem expires.

i know it wonky way to compute the duration/miles but thats the way they work for toyota.

    5y/125 is actually

    5y (vsa) - 3y (oem) = 2 yrs of actual coverage

    125k (vsa) - 36k (oem) = 89k miles of coverage

Yes, thank you. I will be well over 125k before 5 years. I care more about the mileage than the term.

Trade in for new before 3 years or 36K miles.
    No maths to worry about…
