So I’ve been hearing what sounds like something is loose in the rear end of the truck when i go over any kind of bumps or unevenness while driving. I have looked everywhere but also when I grab the top of the rear tires on either side and push and pull I feel like something in the axle has play. Haven’t gone to the shop yet just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with something similar.

Have you drained fluid to see if there's anything weird looking?

I changed to fluid back in April and it was clean still and the magnet didn’t have any chunks. It sounds like something loose when I slowly go over any kind of uneven surfaces and more frequent after driving for awhile.

Yea that’s the plan cause I have looked all over and messed with everything I thought it could be and no luck still. Just wondering if anyone had something similar happen that I may have missed while looking.

Pretty new truck to have loose issues it the rear? Try retorquing the rear wheel lug nuts?

So if you grab the top of the tire on either the driver or passenger side and push and pull it to move the whole truck, it sounds like something in the axle is loose behind the rotor I think. I’m almost certain it’s not the wheels at this point

The wheel bearings or the 4 big nuts behind the backing plate that hold the axle in, are they somehow loose?

Not sure about the bearings but ill check the nuts and see if they are. The shop i deal with will have to look at the bearings and go from there.

Does anyone have any idea what the propeller shaft bolt re-torque even is? Nothing on here is really showing what the torque numbers are or what it even is lol

I take a 17mm box end and smack it with a 18" piece of 2x4. Never had ine move yet. As far as retorque? I'm not going to loosen them to find out they were tight to begin with.

Is it the four bolts that connect the driveshaft to the differential and transmission on either side?

Just to clarify I meant the four nuts that hold the axles in on each side. Behind the brake backing plate. Making sure the drive shaft bolts at the trans and diff are tight is a good idea too though.

Yea that's what I'm thinking they are cause in the maintenance manual it just says bolt not bolts.

I don't know the value off hand. but for the drive shaft and the axle bolts, if you can't tighten them any more by hand with a wrench, they're probably tight enough
