    I have a 2015 Model 1794 Tundra 4WD MX CAB

I want to add a winch on the hitch receiver. I have found the adapter but I want to know if I can pick up power from the round trailer brake controller connector and the max amps for which pin.. I can opt for a winch that uses the right amount of power for the capacity but don't know which pin nor the current limitation. This will be used for dragging things up on my small trailer as I'm too old to move by hand, for example, my 400lb chipper and logs for firewood
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I can't answer your question directly but seeing as no one else has tried....

My dad and I did exactly what you are talking about....well....his idea and metal and my welding! LOL

As to the wiring issue, maybe this bump will get more exposure and the right someone will chime in.

Could you not run by a small shop near you and just ask the shop manager/owner if he can suggest a mechanic to do it in their spare time?

I've hired painters that way and the results were great.

As to dad's hitch-mounted winch, he just hooks it up directly to a spare car battery he puts over in the bed or the truck or bed of the trailer. Works fine.

    That's a good idea.

@mrburt3 seems to have only made one post. so he may be long gone. But to answer the question, No - you cannot get power
for any winch thru the trailer light connector nor brake controller wiring.
Best thing I think is as above suggested and just clip to spare battery secured to trailer. A small ATV/UTV winch is ideal for
lawn and garden equipment and I'd suggest a portable clamp to the trailer or permanent mounting plate to trailer. IMO

Yep, I really like the spare battery idea. I don't have a spare winch lying around but the Harbor Frieght Badlands winch is a very good one from what I understand and would come in handy in some of the places I get into with my Tundra.

Winches draw a lot of amps and current when they get under load. I daisy chain jumper cables together to the truck battery when using mine on the hitch.

Here’s how mine is setup. I’ve done this a couple of times. Those cables are 4ga wire.

A little sketch. But sometimes sketch gets the job done. Would be an easy project to take 2 sets of cables and make your own dedicated cable setup for the winch. Plug on one end for the winch, clamps on the far end for the battery. Hack off the clamps in the middle and butt splice and HD heat shrink the connections
