If nobody is thinking about Croatia, up in the northern Adriatic, as an alternate I think you're missing the boat. Water is warm, coastline is similar to California, temperature like the Sierra Foothills, and relatively affordable. A few hours drive to the Slovenian Alps, a few hours to Venice, big wine region, and not very populated.

I love California. And I'd love it even more if most of y'all leave. We do have "too many" people sharing our public and neighborhood spaces.

I'd like it if we had lower taxes but, if I've got to coexist will millions of people that don't interpret what is 'best' the same way I do, then 'rules help control the fun'. I've seen that return on investment varies a lot, city by city. Well run cities like Santee and El Cajon have well/maintained roads, trees, and parks (homeless problems everywhere), whereas the City of San Diego has tank ditches that used to be pot holes, pvc water pipes draped along the curbs... there's a lot of variation.

It won't last, especially if tariffs happen as planned, but as of right now, CA's is the 4th largest economy IN THE WORLD, and a huge contributor to the USA's place as a top economy. And-- this makes me sad because, as a resident, I'd prefer to pay less taxes-- CA generates about $80 BILLION more every year TO the U.S. federal government than we get FROM the federal government. So, while CA residents can bitch about taxes, every other state need not bitch about CA giveaways; we pay for 'em in-state, and send a shit ton to your state as well.

If I'm not mistaken, that's essentially due to the # of people in CA as well as the percentage of high-income earners. I think CA is on top, followed by TX and NY, or something like that.

Wow, this makes me happy to live in NH. No sales tax and I just paid 450.00 bucks to register my brand new Honda HRV. My tundra cost around 600 to register when it was brand new in 2020, now it's about 160.00 a year. Property taxes are slightly high here, but compared to other places I think we are doing pretty good! Time to move OP!

This is exactly why we have only lived in 2 states...

New Hampshire ; Live Free or Die ,

You will pay $$$ for your property tax BUT you have no Income or Sales tax and the State actually owns the "Hard liquor" stores , they make

serious money with those Stores ;)

Florida ; Depending on which county you live in , this State is much easier to live in.... No income tax and as stated , sales tax rates vary by

county as does insurance packages ....

California "WAS" the "Place to be" but now that golden touch has been Fleeced by the might Few.....I personally know of at least 2 small

businesses that have moved out due to highway robbery taxes once their profits "Kicked in".....One is back in New England and the other is here

    in Florida..

Hopefully folks in Cali can get answers through their "Ballot boxes" to make them strong again because WE , The United States need them to

flourish again .....God knows the other Left coast states can't :p:p:p:fistbump:

California born and raised. I've moved 5 times and never changed zip codes. While yes CA has some of the highest taxes in the nation, and an idiot for Governor (soon to be another idiot when Kamala runs), but for weather you cannot beat the SF Bay Area. 280+ days of sun, no snow, very little rain, beaches 30 minutes away, mountains 4 hours away.

Every place has issues and no place is perfect. For me as I get older, weather plays key in where I want to live. My buddy just moved from the Bay Area to Idaho and while beautiful he hates the cold. I travel for work back and forth to Minnesota and let me tell you those winters are the coldest I've ever seen in my life! :eek2:

And making gas just as expansive as CA.. LOL it sucks now. Was good during Trump 2018, gas was 2.60, now same gas 3.80, due to stupid policies, they follow everything that CA does.

I live just outside of Sacramento, I'm from Southern Illinois and moved here as a kid in 78.I love Ca weather, Food and for the most part its a pretty cool state, I retired twice, once from the military and again from the State Of Ca as a LEO. My reg on my 2020 Tundra is 729.00 and my 05 F250 is 462.00. As far as weather, it really doesn't get much better and Mexican food...I don't know where to start, we have the best. Now, the ugly part, Gas is about 4.34 and diesel just under $4.90, my power bill is usually around 600-800 in the summer and about 200.00in the winter months, groceries,,, another 800-900 a month. We cannot hunt ANY animal in Ca unless using non lead bullets or non lead shot for water foul. That started as a small area, the Ca Condor range was initially the only area, now the entire state is like that and we pay an extra 11% on firearm purchases because Ca hates guns. I can afford to live here pretty easily but I don't want to anymore, I can set my son up financially a bit better when I'm gone if I'm not paying a 3k mortgage and spending another 2k monthly just for the basics. Utah, specifically Moab area is where I'm thinking..I know once I leave I can't get back very easily so I want to do it right when I leave. I've also looked in Branson, Mo, Springfield, Mo, parts of western Tn and northern Arkansas. I feel like I'm being pushed out of Ca by an ever increasing cost of living and mismanagement of the state and our resources along with a political environment that never ceases to embarrass me. The idea of starting over somewhere else bothers me and leaving my son here too...he wants to stay, that bugs me but he's an adult now so it's on him. There was a time when nothing could've dragged me away from Ca, it was like "Baywatch" and everything seemed much less complicated, my fear is that it's changed everywhere, I see real estate prices have pretty much caught up everywhere in the US. I'll see how it goes. Ca claims the 4th largest economy. We have major seaports, we import and export through those ports. Goods manufactured elsewhere in the US but shipped out of Ca ports are "added" to the Ca GDP, conversely products imported through Ca ports and distributed throughout the US are also "added" to the Ca GDP, it tallies 416 billion or roughly a little more than 1/3 of Ca's figure used to claim the 4th largest economy.
