As a consumer do you strictly go by percentage like a meal or it's within reason?

Like for a $2k detail (ceramic coat, window tint, ppf headlights, etc.) job I was thinking $50 or $100 max, am I being a cheap ass or is that a reasonable tip?

It depends, really. I’ve done a ceramic coat and received zero.
I’ve done plenty of details with 0-$100 tip

That being said- I always throw in extras, always. May be an engine bat cleaning, may be some spot removal, leather conditioning - something.

Ok, that's a relief knowing I'm not the only one that thinks this is a bit much.

I've had folks tip me without me doing anything extra.....and not tip me after I went above an beyond. Most detailers, who are not self employed, are not making a ton of money....so a tip would definitely be appreciated.

First off, I detail my on vehicles. Second, I too have had this tip dilemma when it came to installing tints. I took to google to see what others think, just like you. The overwhelming majority said they dont tip. I personally think this tip thing has gotten out of hand. I mean, you're paying for a job to be done, whether the person priced it right or too low isn't my problem. The same thing can be said for any service we pay for, plumbing, A/C, electrical, etc. It's to the point where DoorDash and similar delivery services are demanding good tips. Way I see it is, dont pick a job that has its up and downs on tipping and then demand that you get tipped good for simply driving to someone's house to drop off food. I saw a post of a DoorDash driver get mad over a $3 tip for driving 1 block. Like what was he expecting just to pick up an order and drop it off 1 block away, especially if the tip is the same or above the price of the meal. This is why I dont use those services. Dominos started charging more for the delivery coupons vs the carry out coupons plus a delivery fee, plus whatever you tip the driver. On my regular orders with them I was paying around $11-12 more vs just driving the 5 mins there and saving all that money. What I have also started to see more of, is cash and CC prices. Business are no longer wanting to pay the CC fees and pass them on to you.

Expect before long, businesses won't accept cash and still charge the credit card fee.

I have done both. I have tipped a detailer, thinking it would be beneficial for future work, and it wasn't... I switched detailers.

The one I use now is phenomenal, and I usually throw a $20 on top of the $250 fee charged. I have had zero complaints with this new detailer, and have given gift certificates for his service because he does such a good job.
