I figured I'll make the kitchen capable of slangin' grub for the whole group and I won't have a problem finding a ride. I'd rather be running around with a camera/be a spotter anyway.

Found this ancient (vehicle?) antenna hiking up the side of Mt Battie today, in a shallow grave, hidden from daylight and the elements. Curious what it came off. Looks to be at least 50-60 years old.

I saw something else on the ground, bent to pick it up, then saw the ball end of this a couple inches away. Pulled up only to realize the entire length of it was buried about 2-3” deep underground, horizontally. Had I not bent over I reckon it might’ve lived underground for eternity. I find the weirdest stuff out and about.

Opinions on PCV valve replacement? Never been done as far as I'm aware, I just clicked over 100K.

It's cheap and easy to replace. I say why not.

Correct me if Im wrong, but if you remove and and shake it a bit you can tell if it's still good if it rattles.

I guess if I'm going to that length to shake it, I'm probably just going to replace it.

Do it, super cheap maintenance and definitely wish I had changed mine out sooner at 185k; like yours, mine had never been touched. Since you have an '03, yours is threaded so it should be no problem, 22mm wrench and P/N 12204-50030.

Id wager you're probably fine at 100k, but like DKK said it is a cheap and easy replacement. Go with the OEM part next time there's a sale going on.

Mine was hella gunked at 275k. I was able to clean it well enough to keep it as a spare.

HD has these Army Green tool boxes they are peddling for fathers day. The kid in me really likes them.

If you're in the market for a toolbox, this is the same one I got but in a different color. I like it a lot. Definitely recommend.

Thanks to all who chimed in. Parts on order, will be replacing in the 1GT and the 5th Gen 4Runner. Just not a part I generally think about as a maintenance item. The 5th Gen has 185K on it, and it's never been changed. Pretty happy to own 2 pretty much bulletproof engines...

Actually, you should blow on it to makes sure it still acts as a one way valve.

That’s gotta be a garage door that’s very hard to close if you need to weigh it down with a tool box.

I’ve never had one go bad on me but I haven’t gone more than 100k on them.
