I know it can be hard but be reasonable. The sky is not the limit here but if you had a say, what could be reasonably done to make this truck better and still be affordable. Your the designer, you fix what's wrong in your opinion and see if you are exalted or torn apart by the people on the forum who buy your build. Who knows Toyota might just give the thread a look see. Doubt it, but hey, what the hell.
    1. If Toyota has to have the air dam for EPA make it a bolt on like Tacoma. Don't like it just take it off. Saves Toyota and consumer for paying for the electric motor, wiring and coding.
    2. Obvious reinforced seat panels that stand up to even big guys just sliding off the seats.
    3. Independent rear bumper from body molding. This might even allow a place on the corner of the bumper to use as a toe hold to step up.
    4. Optional panel roof and motor driven tailgate, seat message and extension. Some love them , some hate them. make it a package add on.
    5. Soft touch dash? radio knob that doesn't break.
    6. TRD OR should come with 18" rims. whole idea is to have more rubber between the ground and the rim.
    7. And last but not least. Engine Don't know myself as this is the first Tundra. Chime in. the 5.7 put out 381 horse and 401 torque, but not so good mpg the new engine Iforce puts out 389 horse and 479 torque and gets around 20 mpg but yeah, there is a caveat to this one.

I would like the interior to match the ram but have the rock solid reliability of older Toyotas

    1. Allow the Auto Stop/Start to be permanently turned off.
    2. Let the engine continue to run when the door is opened after a remote start.
    3. Give us Lane Centering that doesn't make the truck feel like a drunk is behind the wheel.
    4. Make the radar cruise less aggressive when braking and accelerating.
    5. Give us brakes that last more than 40K miles.
    6. Redesign the hood to eliminate the ridiculous sun glare.
    7. As mentioned, seat panels that don't crack, and a radio knob that doesn't break.
    8. Eliminate the noisy and useless sliding tray in the center console lid.
    9. Give us a wireless phone charger that actually works.
    10. Give us Toyota navigation without paying for a subscription.
    11. Don't force customers into data collection in order for basic functions, like FOB remote start, to work.
    12. Make mud flaps standard on all models.
    13. Design the grille so it will withstand a small bird strike without breaking.
    14. Give us bumpers that actually serve their intended purpose.
    15. Spark plug change at 40K? Really?

I'm sure there are others, but I need more coffee....

The people that have kept an open mind and swapped to the new 3.4L have had nothing but good to say about the choice minus the engine issues if they have them. Hopefully with 2025 and newer trucks moving forward have no issues. Toyota is making it right and a hell of a lot better than what GM is doing.

This would have been my changes to the 2.5 Gen Tundra with little cost increase.

-single turbo 5L. Toyota already has proven this to be a great motor and 478 hp NA. Could have added 75 or so hp and make the tundra a powerhouse with great towing/economy benefits.

-No idea how the 10 spd is, but every other person I know that has a 10 speed in whatever truck says it's not necessary and an 8 speed would have handled the job just fine. Well well well...Toyota has a 8 speed they had been using for quite some time. This would have minimized costs by upgrading the current in use transmission.

-I would have upgraded the interior to something what it is now.

-I like the composite bed. For what the Tundra payload is...perfect for weight/corrosion reduction. Kinda wish my 1 ton had this.

-Current Sequoia front clip. Me likey more better. this would have reduced production costs with one front end look.

    - I like the drivetrain options. Great that the Tundra is offered with a selectable rear locker and different traction modes.

-Tow hooks. I laughed it off when I first heard someone mention that the 3rd gen has no front tow hooks. I was all "there is no way in hell Toyota would leave off...."
So yeah...I would have tow hooks. No added cost to production. The 2.5 gen had them.

After driving Toyota’s for 45 years and exclusively owning/driving only Toyota’s for 38 years… Im of the mindset that if the 3rd gen Tundra was designed, developed and manufactured in Japan, it’d be a much better vehicle overall.

That's a pretty good list. I'd add factory rear seat delete option and seat memory function for all power seat equipped Tundras.

More testing before releasing to the public. I believe the worst and most common issues could have been discovered and corrected. Even if the 2.5 Gens were continued for one more year, Toyota would not have taken such a reliability hit due to all the issues they've had.

Bigger fuel tanks across the board would’ve been nice. I settled for the 22 gallon tank bc the truck was great in every other way. It’s not terrible, but 275-300 miles to a tank on windy road trips is annoying. Patiently waiting for an aftermarket option.

Better departure angle would’ve been nice since I’ve dragged my bumper on rocks. Just an excuse to buy a steel bumper once I tear this one off.

I agree that an 8 speed probably would’ve been good enough compared to the old 6 speed but I really like the 10 speed (other than it not really using 10th gear).

I had the squeak as well but replaced rotors and pads about 15k miles ago with Napa rotors in the rear, power stop drilled and slotted in the front, with PS Z36 pads and haven’t had any issues since then.

Is the A/C not cooling like it should still an issue on the gen3? I have a 2019 and am looking at joining the gen3 club in the next year or so but I’ve heard and read the A/C doesn’t cool very well. Just wondering if anyone knows what I’m talking about and if Toyota has fixed that problem

All I know is my 2.5 Gen so I can't really comment on the 3rd gens. We are all familiar with the engine trouble with them. But Toyota is taking care of it.
Maybe offer a model with the 5.7l turbocharged or bring back the super charger. That would make me consider getting a brand new Tundra as much as I LOVE my 14. Maybe have both.....ha ha ha

I wish they offered a set of TRD Pro spec wheels in regular cast material vs just the ultra $$ forged. The Pro wheels have exactly the width and offset I want to run 285s (Michelin specs minimum 8" wide rims for LTX XL so my OR OEM 18 inchers at 7.5" won't work) but I am just NOT paying 3 large for a set if wheels. And there are very few aftermarket choices in that spec, if any, and I strongly prefer OEM wheels. Back when I had my Tacoma I got a set of OEM Pro wheels for like $800 and they looked and worked great. To my eye just the right offset.

    1. Quality interior and durability, all things expected from Toyota (knobs, seats, etc. common complaints). With the updated technology integrated.
    2. Over-designed front end, too many sharp edges and molding separations. Aftermarket front bumpers make a huge improvement tho.
    3. Over-designed rear bumper, separate from bed.
    4. TRD Pro bedstamp, iconic, tailgate easily swapped.
    5. 2 engine options for the consumer to decide, 8 speed transmission is good.

AFM does not work, get it out of trucks. Bad. Buy a commuter.

Thats kinda off track. This system is not automatic its manual. You engage it. Sime will never use it some all the time some many times. I think its a non issue as devised

Huge issue actually for wear and tear on the engine and components. Doesn’t do anything for gas savings, it’s too please the epa and for the manufactures to get kick backs. Plain and simple. First mod I did was delete it lol.
