Can I have my oem skid plate finished in Rhino Liner material os does the engine bay generate too much heat? Don’t much care to have it refinished in powder coat as it never seems to last due to the galvanic corrosion at the front mounting point with the tow hooks. I feel paint would take too much of a beating and require frequent touch up. Also considering having the bed liner place do my Taco Tunes Cat Shield. Thoughts as well please. Thanks.

Your skid plate does not get very hot

Thanks KNABORES. I figured I’d ask here before asking the Rhino Lining guys. I would guess the Cat Shield would be a bit more likely to get hot. Maybe I’ll just give it a clean up polish as it’a aluminum as well.

Yea engine heat dissipates upward (heat rises). That being said I bet the bed liner will get eaten up by road debris and such too

After your next drive, reach down there and see how hot it feels. Lots of air flow and heat rises.

OP I'd suggest you look into "Steel It". It's paint that comes in spray cans that is 50% stainless steel flake by weight. It's pricey (like $30 per can), but 1 can should cover the shields and skid.

I painted my grille and bumper on my 1st Gen Tacoma and that truck plows through scrub oak (a local bush that removes most paints with ease) all fall/winter whilst hunting, and its held up incredibly well.

I thought that material was a bit more resilient to a beating than paint.

Bedliner has a tendency to peel back pretty easily after being chipped or scraped, which is why a lot of folks recommend against using it for things like sliders and skid plates.

Even though it may not be your intention to use it in such manner, I think you'll be more prone to that type of damage if it does get scraped.

You may want to consider using Steel It... It's not cheap (should be about $30 can), but it's pretty durable and resilient. Plus, if you end up w/any scrapes, chips, etc.. You simply remove any surface rust, clean the edges of the damage and give it a little touch up

I didn’t mean it like that. Just that two suggestions for the same product in so few threads must mean it’s good stuff.

Awesome!!!! Pics and a little write up on the coverage, etc. once you're done!!!

I'll be doing this once my powder coating is in need of a refresh and warrants a complete stripping and reapplication of protective coating!!!

Spray it with cosmoline, will help prevent rust and is super durable. Cosmoline RP-342 to be specific, or CRC makes Marine Corrosion Inhibitor that's also cosmoline based.
