    Hey folks - back again with two options that I would appreciate thoughts on. The other two trucks I was looking at didn't work out -- one sold, and one seller was shady so I stayed away.

    I am thinking through pros and cons of a 2010 SR5 w/ 51K miles for ~$30K vs. a 2020 Platinum w/ 57K miles for $39K. Both are original owner.

    The 2010 is pretty well built with a lot of what I'd want to do. 34" KO2's, Method wheels, new leafs for more load, 2"/4" lift front/rear, sway bar, bilstein 5100's, sound dampening and fresh fluids, tires, and battery (all less than a year old).

    The 2020 looks pretty much stock except for ditch lights and a lower grill light bar that I'd likely remove.

    I need a truck that'll be a basecamp for hunting/camping in NorCal and Northern Nevada. I'm not a 'rock crawler' or ever looking to get stuck, but I do intend to build a truck that will handle some rocky California granite and nasty old Nevada mining 2-track.

    All that is a way of saying, the 2020 probably needs $10K worth of adds (suspension, wheels, tires, sliders). The 2010, maybe $5K with some of the quality of life things I'd want to do and a good set of rock sliders.

    What do y'all think? Pros and cons of one vs. the other? I think the 2020 could add up quick and not sure if it's really worth another $15-20K over the 2010 by the time all's said and done. Thoughts?

    10 years worth of sitting (only 51k miles) can do damage as well. I would definitely go with the 2020, and that sounds like a pretty good deal on it, while $30k for the 2010 SR5 does NOT sound like a good deal. Yes, you'll be adding some stuff to the 2020, but the truck would be worth more in the end, and would likely last even longer.

    the 2020 will last longer, but damn 39,000.. these trucks definately retain their value! I just bought a 19 with 60,000 kms for 45,000 canadian.. I was in same dilemma, but Baker is right.

    Ha seriously -- and that's right at KBB and Carfax's "retail value". I still can't believe I'm considering a used vehicle for that much $$, but seems to be where the market is at and I want to get my hands on the V8 before 6-cyl's are the biggest motors commercially available...

    2010 is 15 years old and overpriced, especially considering that modifications reduce trade-in value significantly. If you put any mileage on that 2010, you're going to lose 15K+ in value.

    Seems like a no-brainer to me, I'd definitely go the 2020.

    Get the 2020 has the bigger fuel tank 38 gallons vs 26 gallon tank of the 2010 and 2020 has the better head gasket (introduced in 2014) and I believe 2020 comes with led headlights

    I paid $39K for mine within the last 6-8 months. The prices were actually going up. The turbo V6 is making the older trucks worth more too. Another thing about the 2020 is that all the rubber and interior is 10 years younger.

    Don't worry, most of the turbo V6's are in the shop. :rofl:

    Yeah good point on the soft goods / hoses / etc. The interior is nice, although I was thinking about getting some cloth seat covers funnily enough. I use (not abuse) my trucks and between the mud, dust, sunscreen, fur from the dog, etc. I almost feel like it's "too" nice ha! The auto folding mirrors and remote start are most appealing...

    @bpilati -- mind if I ask what you purchased at $39? Year/miles/trim?

    I like the looks of the 2010 better but thats way overpriced so i would steer you towards the 2020 as the much better/smarter buy

    2.5, 14-21 years. 2018 is a good sweet spot for TSS and stock transmission cooler. I paid 48k, new, loaded SR5. Nov 5, 2021 was my purchase date.
