So, after a lot of thinking, trying, designing, and redesigning, I finally got the headache rack mounted to my truck with very little modification to the truck itself.

So, I determined that the the best two points were the stake pocket, and an existing hole (under the bed rail cap) a little ways down.

One of the few modifications I had to make was to bend the sides of the pre-existing hole.

So, I made some adapter plates from 3/16 steel plate with three holes. The hole closest to the bed would mount to the stake pocket, and the one on the other end would mount to the hole that I widened. The middle hole, I had a tapered bolt welded into.

The adapter plate mounted to the bed rail, on top of the rail cap. I did have to cut a hole in the bed rail cap, but this was the last modification I had to make to the truck.

Now, the rack mount sits on top of the adapter plate, with one bolt attaching to the bottom of the stake pocket, and the welded bolt coming up through the other hole in the rack mount.

Now, the adapter plate is mounted to the truck at two points, and the rack mount is attached to the adapter plate at two points. It seems very solid. I will update if I have any issues.
